Significant portion of #Tigray population with an enormous potential for change is YOUTH (age 18 - 29 for this context; However without a census for over 2 decades, exact figure remain obscure 😏). Currently war, siege and previously Covid-19 have affected their lives immensely.
Many had to grab arms and fought to defend their sovereignty during the two years long war, disengaging from their daily life and aspirations. Others if they escaped being arrested or killed by forces of 🇪🇹 , 🇪🇷 and Amhara, they have been displaced,
ending up in collective IDP centers, with families or separated and being responsible for their siblings. Most horribly, young women have been raped and became victims of violence which affected their physical, social and psychological wellbeing.

#Tigray had it all. We had Ahmad ibn Ibrahim & the Ottoman Turks/The Egyptians, Italians, Menelik, Fascist Italy, Haile Selassie, Mengistu. But this genocidal war on #Tigray is incomparable to any that hitherto occurred. Its design, scope, intent, & the execution of action plans
defines its sadistic uniqueness. It was cataclysmic & is ongoing. They decided & came to eliminate #Tigrayans as people. Despite the incalculable sacrifices paid in lives lost, ethnic cleansing, genocidal rape, starvation, millions of IDPs, materials destroyed, in the end as
it has always been, our enemies have come back with unrevealed vengeance, the impact we will eventually notice & intent to rule the land of #Tigray. As things stand, they're back in, watched by #TEGARU they had tried & still desire to eliminate. Those who have not left are still

“መስመር እዩ ሃይልና” I have taken this phrase to mean VALUES are what we stand for and builds our PRINCIPLES as #Tegaru. Similarly “መከተ” is protecting it from any oppressors that tries to disrupt it.
But now am asking what are our values and principles? 1/13
To put a working definition for this two words, I will quote the book “Principles” which explain them as, “Your values are what you consider important and they define who you want to be. However, they are not practical to use when you are faced with tough decisions. 2/13
Principles on the other hand are what allow you to live a life consistent with those value. Your principles need to reflect values you really believe in or the cognitive dissonance will overwhelm you.”

Therefore, my assumption is … 3/13

Thread on #politics and #religion in #Ethiopia 1/14: The country is bracing for a new, nationwide, protest, with possible ensuing widespread violence on Sunday 12. Feb. This time ostensibly over #religion and control of the Ethiopian Orthodox Tewahedo Church #EOTC. #Oromo #Tigray
2/14: The conflict in #EOTC has deep roots, but flared up recently when a group of #Oromo clergy broke with the Church leadership and established a separate Synod, arguing that Oromo representation and culture had been marginalised throughout centuries.
3/14: #Oromo clergy protested that Afaan Oromo was not used in Church, leading to an alienation of the Church from its flock & the decrease of adherents, as well as clergy appointed to #Oromia “don't understand the language and the culture of the people”.

1/12: Analysing politics in #Ethiopia is to try to capture a moving target. Our scholarly approach and understanding have over decades been "blunted" by the incessant fundamental political events happening every so often: large scale conflicts, mass atrocities, revolutions, etc.
2/12: This constant stream of political shocks has become a “normal”, leading to a heedless state of mind and blunting our methodological and analytical approaches and frames in understanding long durée political evolvement in #Ethiopia.
3/12: The developments over the past few years, should however be a wake-up call for us all. Throughout a turbulent history, some core metaphors and narratives have underpinned and projected a notion of this enduring historically imposed or imagined community called #Ethiopia.

1/ The #Ethiopia/n government has informed the diplomatic community in the country on the “measures taken by the Government on human rights violations related to the conflict in the northern part of the country.”

2/ One may argue however that it seems evident that PM #AbiyAhmed, #PP government, and #ENDF military leadership in #Ethiopia are ultimately politically and juridically responsible for the #warcrimes, #crimesagainsthumanity, and possibly #genocide for their war in and on #Tigray.

Dear #Tegaru friends,
I wanted to say how inspiring you are in the face of untold horrors. Every day, I see the depair and the tragedy; but more visceral than that is your strength and your courage. I am humbled to stand with you and for all of the kindness you have shown me./1
I don’t know your pain firsthand. From Tegaru friends online and off, I have heard so many stories without endings.

That’s what gets me in the throat. Right now, almost every story about Tigray with an ending is tragic. Hope seems to only live alongside fear in the unknown./2
I’m not Tegaru. I’m not married to a Tegaru. I’m not a secret TPLF agent. I’m not being paid by anyone to speak out against #TigrayGenocide.

I'm just a researcher, who happened to be focused on Ethiopia in 2020. As a researcher, I can't be silent./3

Thread 1) Are we witnessing a #genocidal campaign by #Eritrea’n forces in the #war in #Tigray #Ethiopia? The atrocities committed and the apparent intent may seem to point in that direction. In this thread I will outline the argument supporting such possible claim. #genocide
2) First, it is important to distinguish between #Eritrean & #Ethiopian forces, although #ENDF is also allegedly responsible for mass atrocities. But in #genocide the intent of the atrocities is also important to consider, which appears more ambiguous in relation to ENDF.
3) It has been documented widespread & systematic #massacers of civilians by #EDF throughout Tigray, targeted as #Tegaru. Many witnesses also claim that Eritrean troops have admitted to orders to kill #Tigrayan men & boys, so they shall not later revenge the atrocities.

A lesson to the barbaric #UnityForEthiopia club.
These are same people whose churches & mosques you desecrated, raped, murdered, looted. Yet, when #Tegaru capture mostly naive, child soldiers you sent to do these things, #Tegaru see them as what they are. Human beings.
Thread 2
These young people, have been driven to war for your fascistic goal & unquenchable thirst to rule over others. You forced them to kill their brothers, rape their sisters, desecrate their churches & mosques. You made them POW in their own country.
Thread 3
As you see in these clips, no matter how much your crimes are unspeakably fascistic and barbaric in #Tigray, your barbarism is not being paid in kind. Learn from these civilized folks you intend to destroy! #Ethiopia

Dear @befeqe
Thread 1
It's important to learn from history of the world that fascists NEVER win. They wreck havoc. They kill (Oh boy! do they know how to kill?) But, there is NO WHERE in history, where they won. When they lose, they lose in a fantastically humiliating manner!
Thread 2
Just like only flag colors & Teddy Afro song brings your lot together, they loved symbolism (The Swastika, the lifting left hand high salute the flag etc.) That is because other than those emotion triggering trivial matters, there's very little that brings them together.
Thread 3
Their HUGE commonality was HATE! In the case of Nazis, for example it was the hate of Jews most of all. And they came up with all sort of "creative" way to murder & torture Jews. Just like you came up with horrific kind of rape, looting and murdering #Tegaru

Will Tigray leave or remain in #Ethiopia?

#TPLF's calculated moves so far could assist with predicting the likely future of #Tigray.

The current TPLF (since #Abiy came to power) had been carefully following procedures when it comes to dealing with the federal govt. 1/12
#TPLF had been releasing a number of statements/announcements, both written & verbal, which may seem pointless to the juvenile, naive and/or intentionally deaf ears but they're calculated & sensible than anyone could imagine. Every statements had some reasoning behind it. 2/12
#TPLF peacefully handed over power to #Abiy in the hope that he will execute #EPRDF’s future plans in line with the party member’s agreement. Unfortunately, Abiy had other sinister plans. Abiy & Co. fooled TPLF & managed to successfully undertake the #SoftCoup. 3/12
