Goodbye Kepler!

@NASAKepler Space Telescope is low on fuel. Launched in 2009 with 3.5 years expected lifetime- still collecting data, finding exoplanets.

Kepler won't burn up in Earth's atmosphere as it is too far (151 million km). Will remain in eternal dance duet with Earth.
Hello TESS!

The Exoplanets Search baton passes to Transiting Exoplanet Survey Satellite
@NASA_TESS launched on 18 Apr 2018.

The 2 yr prime mission will scan nearly the Entire Sky using 4 identical cameras to monitor over 200,000 nearest and brightest stars for Transit events. Parts of TESS
#TESS reached its science orbit in May.

Final orbit has a period of 13.7 days which puts it into a 2:1 resonance with the moon where perturbations from the moon’s gravity roughly average to zero.

The highly elliptical high-Earth orbit will remain stable for several decades.
