Έχοντας τερματίσει πλέον το παιχνίδι, ήρθε η ώρα για μερικές σκέψεις, και ένα evaluation: The Last of Us 2.

as a palestinian, this hurts & angers me to my core, especially upon seeing praise for this game. my people’s struggle to exist should not serve as “”inspiration”” for a AAA video game. and to depict us as aggressive as our oppressors is more than a slap in the face.
everyone loves to have some kind of commentary on palestine but at the same time refuse to acknowledge that we are real people who have been and are currently being mass murdered. there is a genocide happening that people use for “”inspiration”” for their stupid damn games/movies
i’m tired. i’m so angry. i hate this. i hate that people think this is fine & care more about this stupid video game’s story than our actual struggle to simply exist. we’re real people who have been taken from our homes and killed mercilessly. but creative inspiration tho!

Here's a sneak peak into face deformation tech/rig and R&D for #TheLastofUsPartII that I've contributed in the span of 5 years starting from my initial days @naughtydog. following video was the first animation rig prototype [tech thread] 1/ #gamedev #maya3d #rigtip
Spec :
mesh res – 20K
Target Count – 2019 shapes
Joint Count – 350
with this new rig I was trying to preserve legacy workflow (channel box attributes) at the same time introducing face controls(both have pros/cons). its achieved with proxy attributes/alias attributes. 2/
blendshape head file was 125mb, I converted to rivet mesh(kept only used faces for rivet) file size reduced to 23mb. that resulted into faster load time and any world space deformer can be applied(softmod, cluster). Full head + rivetmesh used for SSD to generate auto skin. 3/

Warning ! A huge hot take is approaching fast !

Ouch that #TLOU2 review in Polygon.

But yeah, forcing the player into taking actions they don't want to take, and then making them feel bad about being complicit, feels like such a cheap trick.

And I'm *not* picking on TLOU specifically... 1/

It's a weird dynamic that AAA action games have with their players: they demand such complete submission from the player, in order to progress through the game.

The player might be a superhero, but if the game tells them to go somewhere and do something, they have no choice.

So paradoxically, to enjoy those "morally complex" action games you have to desensitize yourself to the moral elements of the story.

Because you know you're never *actually* in control of the story. You're always Job, being set up and toyed with.
