Beim TTC-Treffen geht es um brisante Themen, wie transatlantische Datenflüsse und Datenschutz, Künstliche Intelligenz und auch die Begrenzung der Macht von Internetplattformen. 2/7 #peoplevsbigtech
Im Vorfeld kam großer Zuspruch für den TTC vonseiten der #Digitalindustrie. Sie fordert sogar einen Platz am Verhandlungstisch bei den Treffen. 3/7
Mein Take on #RCEP:
1. (& am wichtigsten): 🇨🇳 hat gezeigt, dass es in einem plurilateralen Abkommen anschlussfähig ist.
2. 🇮🇳 hat das Gegenteil bewiesen, was Indien zurückwirft und man #Modhi vorwerfen muss.
3. Der Abtritt #Abe|s machte wohl auch möglich, dass sich 🇰🇷 und 1/

#China hat heute mit 14 asiatisch-pazifischen Staaten das größte Freihandelsabkommen der Welt abgeschlossen (#RCEP). Das muss für #Europa und die #USA ein Weckruf sein. 🌏 [Thread]
Mit #Trump ist in den USA gerade ein Gegner des #Freihandel abgewählt worden. Die #EU sollte die Gunst der Stunde nutzen und der neuen Biden-Regierung die Wiederaufnahme der #TTIP-Verhandlungen anbieten. 🇪🇺🇺🇸
Das transatlantische Freihandelsabkommen liegt seit 4 Jahren auf Eis. Es würde eine Freihandelszone schaffen, die 800 Mio Menschen und fast die Hälfte der globalen Wirtschaftsleistung umfasst. Diese Chance sollten wir nutzen, anstatt China im Welthandel das Feld zu überlassen.

In response to Covid: “reshoring is unlikely to go very far in the EU”, said Ignacio.

CETA has already been agreed by the European Parliament.
In 2016, it wasn't. Talks were ongoing.
It has been provisionally applied since late 2017.
Ratification is underway.

Was ich grad echt nicht kapiere: Da hacken vor allem sehr weit links stehende Gruppen oder Personen auf #ExtinctionRebellion und #berlinblockieren ein, weil die aus deren Sicht so viel falsch machen oder Opfer einer Sekte sind, selbst nicht denkfähig. (1/x)
Man kann schon kritisieren. Damit meine ich nicht das teilweise unverständliche Agieren einzelner Akteure oder Gruppen (wird es immer geben), sondern durchaus kritische Beobachtung der Bewegung. Das sollte immer sein. Von innerhalb und außerhalb. Aber konstruktiv.
Fakt ist aber doch, dass wir alle versagt haben. Alle. #ExtinctionRebellion werden aber als Loosertruppe, gar als Verräter dargestellt - noch bevor die richtig angefangen haben. Man kann ihnen mit ihrem Ansatz im Gegensatz zu uns zumindest noch nicht vorwerfen, versagt zu haben.
OK, so it seems @TimmermansEU could become the next Commission president. Here are a couple of thoughts if he indeed makes it (nothing certain yet, as #EUCO is 😴)

Though he has strong S&D support, much of Timmermans' rise (and his broader appeal) is due to his nationality and his personality.

Of course, the British government really wants a deal. But for the US the matter is less urgent. As with Brexit, Britain will be in a substantially weaker bargaining position. Britain needs the US more than the other way around.
