Outside the courthouse in Oshawa now where Justice Joseph Di Luca will be delivering his judgement in the Adam Strong murder trial at 9:30 am. It’s also being live streamed on YouTube. Will be live tweeting the verdict
As well as being shown on zoom, There are 10 people allowed inside the courtroom where the judgement will be delivered. Adam Strong is in the prisoner’s box. And there is an overflow room that accommodates 60 people I’m told. I’m watching from the verdict from our live truck.
Still waiting to get into the Zoom webinar. looks like we are starting a bit late

I have a (half-baked) theory as to why #TVnews turns sweet-natured people into chest-thumping anchors. If this sounds batshit crazy, let me know!

I speak as a former TV reporter, anchor, producer, 'deskie' and editor. This might have been my lot if I'd stayed in TV.
1. People need jobs, and if you've already put in 10-12 years or more, you're very likely in a pretty 'senior' role. This is because TV news in India (for the most part) is pretty young and you won't be blocked by those in their and 60s, and so you can advance pretty quickly.
What this means is that after so many years, you have a lot to lose. You've probably got multiple financial commitments, and the salary (while pitiful compared to other professions) is still significant.

Let’s dive into this data from the local #broadcast news perspective. Here's a thread.
1/
The research says: "71 percent of those surveyed believe that 'their local news outlets are doing very or somewhat well financially.' Only 14 percent have paid for or given money to local news … in the past year."
2/
It fairly notes that local #TVnews is "often" a source more than any other, and 86% of people watch local TV news at least sometimes, along with 79% for radio news.
