A rundown of how much TX GOP's proposed map would shore up nine of their own incumbents who badly need it:

#TX02 Crenshaw: Trump +1 to Trump +23
#TX03 Taylor: Trump +1 to Trump +15
#TX06 Ellzey: Trump +3 to Trump +20
#TX10 McCaul: Trump +2 to Trump +20
Continued...

#TX21 Roy: Trump +3 to Trump +20
#TX22 Nehls: Trump +1 to Trump +15
#TX23 Gonzales: Trump +2 to Trump +7
#TX24 Van Duyne: Biden +5 to Trump +12
#TX31 Carter: Trump +3 to Trump +20
The reason I was mildly surprised: Republicans could have drawn #TX03, #TX22 & #TX24 to be even redder.

All three GOP seats moved 25+ pts left between 2012 and 2020, and as proposed they could easily be vulnerable again by the middle of the 2020s.

Texas Republicans' proposed congressional map is up and analyzed on the @FiveThirtyEight redistricting tracker: projects.fivethirtyeight.com/redistricting-…
@FiveThirtyEight The map shores up #TX07, #TX28, #TX32, and #TX34 for Dems and adds a new solid-blue #TX37 in Austin. In exchange, #TX02, #TX03, #TX06, #TX10, #TX21, #TX22, #TX23, #TX24, and #TX31 are made safer for their Republican incumbents.
Dem Rep. Vicente Gonzalez's #TX15 also becomes a bit redder, but still a tossup, under this map. I wonder if he moves over to the safe blue #TX34, whence Rep. Filemon Vela is retiring. projects.fivethirtyeight.com/redistricting-…

Wow. This isn't even as aggressive a map as I expected from Texas Rs. It could plausibly be 24R-14D, w/ the chance Rs add seats in the Rio Grande Valley & Dems gain in DFW burbs over the course of the 2020s.
A few early highlights/impressions:
- a new Dem #TX37 in Austin
- a new GOP #TX38 in Houston (for Wesley Hunt?)
- no new Hispanic majority seat (lawsuit?)
- #TX15 Gonzalez (D) made redder
- #TX03 Taylor (R) & #TX24 Van Duyne (R) not shored up quite as much as I'd have expected
Another surprise: this GOP proposal doesn't shore up #TX21 Rep. Chip Roy (R) by nearly as much as it could have. He's still got a chunk of Travis Co.

The much bigger winners: #TX02 Crenshaw, #TX10 McCaul, #TX22 Nehls, #TX25 Williams, #TX31 Carter.

1,116,913 — Covid Cases in Texas
29,335 — DEAD TEXANS...
*We have a Governor who continues to overrule local leaders who issue mandates for their communities, most recently- EL PASO.
*This also happened in Houston back in the Spring...
Abbott overruled a mandate issued by @HarrisCoJudge Lina Hidalgo. Our Governor is doing nothing to mitigate the spread of Covid, yet he’s keeping a chokehold on those who are actively trying to save lives. What’s wrong with him?
We have absolutely no leadership here. Meanwhile, Ted is calling another Senator an *ass for asking a colleague to wear a mask while speaking, because there’s always a Senate stenographer about 6’ away. Masks aren’t a political thing...WTF?...

Hello everyone. From the bottom of my heart, thank you. It’s been the honor of my life running as the Democratic nominee for #TX02 and fighting to get @JoeBiden elected. Just 11 short months ago, we began this campaign with a belief.

[THREAD]
A belief that health care is a human right — not a privilege for the few. A belief that politicians must be held accountable to the people, and that conscience must always come before career. And a belief that, together, we can turn our American Dream into an American Reality.
We always knew this fight would be an uphill battle, but I was never scared to take on this challenge. As a woman of color, an immigrant, and a breast cancer survivor, I’ve been defying the odds my whole life.

Tonight, however, we came up short.

In case @DanCrenshawTX pretends to forget all these COVID-19 lies, here's a thread to jog his memory.

I'm going to hold him accountable come November 3rd, and here's why.

(1/16)
On April 22, @DanCrenshawTX said @HarrisCoJudge's mask measure was “draconian” and would lead to “unjust government tyranny.” (2/16)
On May 21, @DanCrenshawTX said the public does not need to follow Judge Hidalgo’s mask orders, chastising her “immaturity” before claiming the virus “is not that bad and it never was." (3/16)

A few things @DanCrenshawTX forgot to mention on his big @GOPconvention debut.

1) Dan talked about honoring heroes, but he claimed @SenDuckworth — Purple Heart recipient who lost both of her legs in combat — "stands" for the "destruction of America."
washingtonpost.com/politics/2020/…
2) @DanCrenshawTX talked about the frontline heroes selflessly serving us all. But he forgot to mention the bipartisan group of 100+ Houston doctors who plead with him to stop spreading dangerous disinformation about the pandemic.

Spoiler: He didn't.
theintercept.com/2020/07/17/hou…
3) @DanCrenshawTX talked about stopping chaos and protecting heroes. But he's been calling the president's @USPS slowdown a "conspiracy theory," which left tens of thousands of veterans waiting on life-saving medications.

Hey @DanCrenshawTX — you still haven't responded to the bipartisan group of 100+ Houston doctors asking you to stop spreading dangerous disinformation.

Take a break from the swamp and read their words. (1/18)

"We are the doctors, medical professionals, and emergency room physicians of Houston, dutifully serving on the frontlines of this pandemic and trying to keep our patients, our families, and ourselves alive." (2/18)
"Being a medical professional is challenging enough — but the stress of the COVID-19 pandemic is magnifying every imaginable strain on our medical community as our city has become the nation’s newest epicenter." (3/18)

Fact: Democrats represent 54% of all House districts but 95% (!) of the 100 districts with the highest shares of foreign-born residents.
The only Rs who represent districts in the top 100: #FL25 Diaz-Balart, #GA07 Woodall, #TX22 Olson, #TX24 Marchant, #TX02 Crenshaw. Dems have strong opportunities in 3/5 in 2020 so the Dem share could plausibly go up to 98% soon.
Flip side: Republicans represent 83% of the 100 districts with the highest shares of native-born residents & have strong opportunities in 4/17 Dem-held seats, so the GOP share could go up to 87% soon.
