We are a group of seven queer activists and artists who have been occupying a mansion in Camps Bay for just under two weeks. #takeupspace #webelonghere #holdyourground
2. We are here in protest of many issues, that are layered, complex & nuanced - as are our identities as queer people, and as those who have historically been divided by race and class. we have connected across struggle because we are in solidarity
3. we believe in justice, dignity, collective healing and our historical right to be allowed safe space in beautiful areas that we have historically been displaced from, areas we still would never be able to live in. #takeupspace #webelonghere #holdyourground

If you've just tuned in, it's @rose_kala_dias on a takeover hype (first time, can you tell!? #takeupspace)... here is a thread of some of the spaces/places/thinkers/artists/collectives that have been inspiring me in my #digitalplacemaking #spacesofcare thinking...
@rose_kala_dias There's A LOT of amazing work out there facilitating radical ideas into action - linking rest, care, social justice, collective and individual practices, also just on EXISTING for those experiencing marginalisation, including #BlackPowerNaps / @TheNapMinistry / @thellpsx ❤️
@rose_kala_dias @TheNapMinistry @thellpsx Who remembers this in @ArnolfiniArts front room? comfort, genitalia + radical literature 😍#bringbackthefrontroom #fluffyplacemaking 𝙒𝙝𝙖𝙩 𝙬𝙤𝙪𝙡𝙙 𝙖 𝙙𝙞𝙜𝙞𝙩𝙖𝙡 / 𝙝𝙮𝙗𝙧𝙞𝙙 𝙫𝙚𝙧𝙨𝙞𝙤𝙣 𝙤𝙛 𝙩𝙝𝙞𝙨 𝙡𝙤𝙤𝙠 +𝙛𝙚𝙚𝙡 𝙡𝙞𝙠𝙚?

Thank you for all the messages of support. The rental company that manages the mansion we are occupying has threatened to involve the police despite the fact that evictions are currently still illegal.

We must reject this perception of occupiers that invites violence on people simply in need of homes.
If you connect with our cause and would like to show your solidarity to us and others like us, please mention us in your stories, @ the page, share our posts to ensure that we and other occupiers in this city are kept safe.

Ok Twitter fam... it’s here!!!

I took a couple of days to recuperate from call but it’s finally here! I’m so excited to share with you all that the #takeupspace masterclass is confirmed for September 26, 2020! Image
So what is the #takeupspace masterclass?

In this class we will delve into some important questions and provide tangible solutions to dealing with #systemicracism

How do we pursue dreams denied to us by society?
How do we not only fit into spaces not designed for us, but thrive in them?

How do we maintain our authenticity when we are told that what makes us whole is incompatible with ambition and success?

How do we set our own standards while navigating the unfamiliar?
