Data privacy as a national security issue? —Sen Wyden #TechHearing
Facebook - Yes
Twitter - Yes
Google - N/A
Wyden goes for the jugular - Microtargeting for voter demobilization. Will we ask about Cambridge Analytica here? #TechHearing
Nope. Not yet. This has been covered in Canadian parliament committee. But not yet in the US Congress. #TechHearing #CambridgeAnalytica

Will Congress ask any questions about Facebook’s Custom Audiences feature on Sept 5 #TechHearing? They won’t get to the bottom of the Cambridge Analytica scandal if they don’t. finance.yahoo.com/news/expect-go…
Whereby the “top” of the scandal was deceptively harvesting thru GSR by Cambridge Analytica/SCL thanks to Palantir talent. “Bottom” of the scandal is how tainted data was subsequently used to retarget/demobilize in 2016 using Custom Audiences data upload/matching/hashing.
W H O I S J O S E P H C H A N C E L L O R ? And why won’t Facebook tell us anything about this equal partner to Kogan and what he knew and when? And why did Facebook work alongside Cambridge Analytica for Trump after having dealt with them as a policy violator in GSR fiasco?

Just heard @d1gi cited by Parkland, FL's Rep @RepTedDeutch in today's #TechHearings about vast quantities of conspiracy theorist video on YouTube in the context of gun violence disinfo. Also Facebook gets hammered about InfoWars and how many strikes it will take to get banned.
Congressman @RepCicilline's remarks and questions in today's #TechHearing focused on misguided priorities of committee because the narrative of algorithmic bias on social media as censorship is itself disinformation. Evidence contradicts this conservative victim-hood narrative.
Congressman @tedlieu re-articulates the ridiculousness of this episode of #TechHearings because it's stupid to discuss speech regulation on private companies in Congress. Something like: "Only thing worse than an Alex Jones video is the premise behind this hearing."

Must see TV.
.@ChuckGrassley: Public unaware of data collection practices, and the Cambridge Analytica Facebook scandal exposes these serious policy issues to confront. CA declared insolvency so cannot participate in this hearing. Says this conversation could've taken place in 2015 or earlier
.@ChuckGrassley: Runs thru the requisite whataboutism while decrying partisanship. Doesn't seem to be drawing attention to the internationalized (and militarized) distinction between CA/SCL and formerly domestic and civilian voter analytics industry, nor UK enforcement response.
