1. Read aloud: Reading aloud helps to catch errors that were overlooked during silent reading. Find the 'Read Aloud' feature on MS Word under 'Review.'
2. Bring coherency: Make sure that each paragraph flows logically so that the overall #thesis structure is well-organized.

Annual consumer spends on offline merchants are over $1T, of which only a sliver is bought on credit.
Consumer durables and mobiles is the only category where over 25% spends are on credit. Rest categories are all small.

First, a note: I fucked about a LOT the first 2-3 yrs of the PhD. Then, had 2 bereavements + 6 straight months of health issues which put me out of action. So I ended up writing most of the thesis only in my last writing up year.
I cut it close but I got it done.

1. I looked at everything I had to do + planned backwards: How many chapters over how many months. I broke the writing plan down into months, and then into weeks.
I had an idea of how I work and how much I'm able to do within a week, so I kept it realistic.

1. Digital notebooks like @Labstep and a physical notebook: To write your experiments, short and long-term goals, updates etc.
2. Portable reading tools like @AmazonKindle or iPad. It's easy to carry (anywhere), read, highlight, and jot down notes.

Our goal was to decide on the library size needed to sequence a cohort of ~90 in-house Leukaemia RNA-Seq samples to allow good sensitivity for both DE analyses and mutation calling.
We used publicly available deeply sequenced RNA-Seq samples (from Leucegene) from the same cancer type and called mutations using 6 methods (combinations of 3 popular callers and filtering methods).

Step 1: We blocked out two hours every Monday to write together. #MadWriting
