#Sahel: Today, #JNIM released the video "If they fight you, fight them". It's been almost three years since JNIM released their last full-length video with combat footage, namely "And the Battle Continues".
#Sahel: This could be explained by several factors: First, the focus has been on the political line; second, JNIM's official media presence has declined significantly, and this is against the backdrop of several key media figures (in #Algeria and #Mali) being killed
#Sahel: The decline is particularly relevant when compared to #ISGS, which received major boost from its formal integration into #IslamicState's organizational infrastructure & media apparatus. However, this last video marks the effective recovery of #JNIM media wing Al-Zallaqa.

Art historians like @moyokdg have talked about the mono-identification assigned to African arts, in spite of the variations in interpretations and appropriations that are organic in African Arts not only in terms of tribes but also in terms of the artists that curated the works
No singular interpretation and meaning and language can be assigned to African Arts....From #Timbuktu to #Casablanca, #Ife to #Kishasha... can be assigned to the stories of Africa...... Arts can be used to understand Africa but it has been used to distort the stories of Africa
This reminds us Deirdre La Pin's 'Tale and Trickster in Yoruba Verbal Art'. Deirdre with deep reflections on Aristotle’s and other western ideations, points out how identical acts accrue different meanings when they are performed by characters with unlike motives

When I first met @Baba_A_ in 2013 in magical #Timbuktu, I thought I'll never see him again.

But last night he was my guest here in Dubai. Over Lebanese food he told me stories about Mali &I told him about Beirut &Dubai.

Baba is a great journalist. Pls follow &support his work
At one point @Baba_A_ and I were the only two journalists in Timbuktu who spoke Arabic. So we developed a bond.

The Arabs of Timbuktu back then massively left the city for fear of being targeted after the start of the war to kick the Jihadists out.
One of the sad news I learned from @Baba_A_ is that the famous Khaira Arby has passed away. She was known as "The Nightingale of Timbuktu".

I met her in 2013 in Bamako. It was right after hearing that Jihadists might cut her tongue because she was a singer.

Rest In Peace. 💔
