1/ What follows is the story of why I will not be attending #MPSA2020. Here, I discuss the aftermath of my #MeTooPoliSci disclosure, which I discussed last year: The #thread is long, so please bear with me. #MPSAfail
2/ When I first saw the editorial statement on the @AJPS_Editor website in April 2018, I was devastated. In that statement, my harasser told the #polisci community that what I said about him harassing me was untrue.
3/ He also indicated that his cooperation with the ongoing investigations with the @MPSAnet, @michiganstateu, and @UMich was an attempt to clear his name.

Now back at Cuddy Halll for a discussion with @theNASEM about #MeTooSTEM, running through sleet and snow. Should be a good discussion given our recent #TitleIX complaints.
See the 300 page report from NASEM on sexual harassment. Linked here for the 5 people on Twitter who don't know that sexual harassment exists in STEM. Here's the 300 page evidence that it does.…
Good reminder that gender harassment ("women don't belong in STEM") is as damaging as the overt sexual harassment (unwanted sexual advances, etc).

.@IWF calls on Congress to clarify federal law on campus sexual assault. #TitleIX #IWlaw #IWed #IWregs
Washington, DC -- @IWF applauds the U.S. Senate committee on Health, Education, Labor and Pensions for taking the first step toward clarifying federal law on campus sexual assault.
As an organization dedicated to expanding women’s freedom, choices, and opportunities, IWF takes seriously any and all allegations of sexual misconduct and abuse. And as an organization committed to fairness and due process, IWF understands that allegations of

This week @bidenfoundation submitted a comment to the Department of Education about proposed changes to #TitleIX guidance.

These new rules would endanger students and make it harder for survivors of sexual assault to seek justice.
Students and survivors are making their voices heard. Grassroots organizers are working to make sure these guidelines are never put into effect.
.@DavidsonJess22 of @endrapeoncampus has been advocating for safer campuses since long before I met her in the White House. Jess, I’m so grateful for your tireless work, and proud of all that you continue to accomplish.

It’s important that we not create confusion about the reality of sexual violence that students experience and the rules that DeVos has proposed. Thread.
1) The violence that students face in schools has long been kept in the shadows. Few people come forward because they know they are unlikely to be believed. Or that their schools will treat the violence they endure as unimportant. The DeVos proposed rules will make this worse.
2)All survivors face deep skepticism. That is our culture at its worse and unfortunately our laws and processes have often reflected that idea.

I have been totally transparent that I support women candidates.

I created #FlipItFemale (I think--parallel generation happens on here a lot).

Women are 52% of the US population and 15% representation.

If there are 2 progressive candidates and one is female, #vote her.

Representation matters.
Right now women are in a literal fight for our lives against the Trump-led #GOP juggernaut that wants to eviscerate every protection based on sex that women have fought for for decades like #EqualPay #ReproRights & #TitleIX.

We need women in Congress.
We've been told #FlipItFemale is "identity politics" when it's actually majority politics. White men are the minority--why do they wield all the power?

Men with lesser resumes and experience than women rise because of structural #misogyny.

Change that by voting for women.

I was 14 when I was abducted & sexually assaulted by a classmate (a stranger) last summer. When I told my school, I thought they would keep me safe. Here’s how Winchester Public Schools turned a bad situation into an absolute nightmare THREAD
I did everything you’re supposed to do. I reported the assault to police & my school. I assumed adults would make it better and that I would be able to have their support. Instead, the school’s response has become worse than the actual assault. @tweetwps 1/
Although a judge issued a no-contact order against my assailant and placed him under court supervision for felony abduction & sexual battery, my school’s #TitleIX investigation concluded he didn’t do it. My principal, superintendent & school board are all calling me a liar. 2/

THREAD about the Christendom rape scandal and what to do about it:
Some people think calling for O'Donnell to resign is based on some smoking gun - some case where we can absolutely prove his administration completely blew it.
And since the details of each rape case may be hard to know, or protected by confidentiality, they argue that we can never know enough to make a call.

This afternoon at #SPSA2018, I was on a #CWC panel about mentoring across genders. Below, I'll include my comments from the panel. In it, I speak candidly about my #gradschool #metoo moment. @SPSAwomen @SPSAwomen 1/n
In many ways, graduate school is designed to make students feel like impostors. It's a common experience, but it can be particularly damaging for members of groups that have traditionally lacked access to the higher ranks of our discipline. I’ll focus on women here. 2/n
For these folks, the feeling that they have “faked” or “charmed” their way into graduate school (or the #tenuretrack, etc.) can override objective evidence of their own diligence, intellect, and merit. 3/n
