Also, the sunset was beautiful again on Dec. 14. 2024 marks ten years after Sandy Hook. I pushed the listening-station button in honor of Jessica Rekos and her classmates again.

2/ Eagles are common on San Juan Island, so everyone with a camera gets shots of them here. But getting the right combination of light and pose is always special.
3/ This black oystercatcher on the rocks at Lime Kiln was unperturbed by my presence. I was shooting orcas but this was my best pic that day.
This year I decided I needed an antidote to the ugliness that appears regularly on my timeline. Knowing that getting a daily dose of natural beauty is key to my own mental health, I began sharing a daily (well, sorta) photo of the beauty I’ve seen over the years: #TodaysBeauty.
Over half of the #TodaysBeauty shots have been from my photo archives, but I also posted a large number of pix that were contemporaneous. So to celebrate the New Year, here is a thread of some of my favorites, mostly taken this year, month by month. Enjoy!

#TodaysBeauty is a J pod orca (pretty sure it's a female, ID coming, hopefully) breaching next to Lime Kiln Lighthouse today. First time we've seen these folks since April.

This is J Pod of the Southern Resident killer whales (an endangered population) passing by Lime Kiln Point Lighthouse on the western side of San Juan Island.
