A signature #Hungarian food to try when visiting #Hungary:
lángos (laan-gosh)

Deep-fried bread dough, often eaten with any combination of garlic, sourcream & cheese

Yesterday, a Telegram channel associated with the #WagnerGroup posted a call for recruits:

"The Wagner Philharmonic has decided to take part in the Great World Concert and is holding auditions to select for its touring musical troupe."

A 🧵 on #Wagner & what the post reveals.
1. Some background: Russian #VDV Airborne #Spetsnaz commander Dmitry Utkin adopted the callsign "Wagner" in the first Russian incursion in #Donbas in 2014, a triple entendre indicating his position as "conductor" of off-book scouts and saboteurs now known as the #WagnerGroup.
2. Much has been made of Wagner's affiliation with neo-Nazi movements in #Russia. But the cultural weave of Russian mercenaries is more nuanced.

"Wagner" also refers to the German composer's valorization during the #ThirdReich by Adolf Hitler & Nazi propagandist Joseph Goebbels.

Given my love for #travel, thought I'd compile a thread of some of the best #tourism ads I've seen over the years

Am keeping it restricted to #PrintAds, and only those by #tourismboards, whether national, state or city

Hope you enjoy it 🙂🥂 and are inspired to travel
We could warm up with #Australia's 'So Where The Bloody Hell Are You' campaign, which turned a lot of heads thanks to it's choice of wording and, of course, the stunning visuals
Politeness can be over rated, eh @Australia 🖖🏾
As far as accidental tourism ads go, #Banff in #Canada capitalized on a squirrel photobombing a couple's pic and made him their mascot, even creating a Twitter id for the little fella and featuring him in a whole set of ads

Nicely done @banfflakelouise @Canada

Australia has for years been battling to keep the Great Barrier Reef off the “in danger” list. On June 22, 2021, a UN committee recommended that the GBR should be added to a list of “in danger” World Heritage Sites.

Read more about Great Barrier Reef in the thread below:

The #GBR is 2,300 km long and extends across 346,000 sq. km. area, hosting an assemblage of fishes and invertebrates in the reefs, sharks, rays, anemones and myriad other forms all of which need a delicate ecological balance to thrive.

#GBR won a place on the World Heritage List under the World Heritage Convention, 1972, as it has outstanding universal value. As a fabled wonder of the natural world, Australia’s GBR and its diversity of #marine life found a place on UNESCO’s World Heritage List in 1981.

Earlier this week, #Dubai opened up it's city to #tourists .

I have lived in Dubai and it's indeed a beauty. If you want to visit, I made a LIST of places you MUST see...

A THREAD....
1. MAKE SURE YOU JUMP OUT OF A PLANE AND SKY DIVE.

Join dozens of bucket listers and jump out of a plane at Skydrive Dubai. Skydive at the speed of 190kph, as you scream, your cheeks flapping, and the air hitting you as you drop from 4,000 meters above the Palm Jumeirah. Image
2. ENJOY TEA AT THE GLORIOUS BURJ KHALIFA

No bucket list is ever complete without visiting the breathtaking Burj Khalifa. Take an afternoon tea at Atmosphere Restaurant and Lounge on the 122nd floor, while you take jawed dropping pictures. Image

As #COVID19 cases are found to spread, #Melbourne (city of ~5 million) tries to contain them by going into #Lockdown.
(The interview features the idea of a dedicated #Quarantine building - that would actually help, I guess)...
"People acting as if the pandemic was over was 'not the answer, it is part of the problem' ".

"The virus had leaked from postcodes already under the stay-at-home orders to other parts of #Melbourne."
(and beyond, it is feared).
Due to #Melbourne's outbreak, neighbouring South Australia is about to completely close it's borders to #Victoria.

(Nearly) no exceptions. And those essential few who are allowed in, will have to wear facemasks the entire time...

Vorpommern-Greifswald district (where rejections of #Gütersloh residents took place, yesterday)
has specific rules:
"Those who return from international risk areas (out of Germany) or whose Corona-Warning App has alerted them, need to report to authorites"
kreis-vg.de Image
In fact, Mecklenburg-Vorpommern's Corona-ordinance really prohibits entry of people from international risk areas AND german risk areas as well.
It's just not prominently featured on their websites.

(Overlooked that myself, hence deleted earlier tweet)

People from #Gütersloh district may have to scrap all their holiday plans anyway...

An official #Lockdown is just being announced for the entire district.

There's been so much hype about #Zanzibar, but at the same time, a few people weren't particularly thrilled. Had to go find out for myself ,so some friends and I planned a trip. What I think? Top rating for beaches, good food, so much to see, history. Read this thread... #Travel
From #DaresSalaam, you have the options of flying or going by ferry to #Zanzibar. On the other hand, you could fly directly there. We spent a few days in Dar, then we went by ferry...it cost $35 per person for economy and $50 per person for VIP. We travelled in the VIP section.
It takes 1hr30mins to get to Zanzibar by ferry. It could take longer when it's turbulent. The hotel we stayed in was an hour away from stone town. We stayed in Nungwi which is North of Zanzibar. #Travel #Africa #Tanzania #holidays

Good evening, #entrepreneurs! Let us discuss this week's #GEMChats on #startups and #disruptors to the #tourism industry.

Feel free to #RT, reply and engage with us as we go on with this thread.
The answers to the #poll indicates that most of you feel the biggest gamechanger to the #tourism industry in this #Industry40 is the rise of low cost airlines followed closely by travel accommodations #startups like @Airbnb and @agoda.

Well, you aren't wrong there!
Low cost airlines #democratise travel for everyone. As @tonyfernandes puts it in @AirAsia's tagline: "Now Everyone Can Fly".

Flying had been considered a luxury accessible only to the middle class and well-heeled (sic) - Jack Yu writes at linkedin.com/pulse/now-ever…
