Losing the best leader I’ve had today, so sharing a few lessons she taught me (not an exhaustive list). 9 lessons for 9 months:
1 - Always. Choose. People.
When you act to stand up for your values and for other people, everything else falls into place. It’s really as simple as caring about people.
2 - Understand people.
Get to know your team as humans and co-workers – what are their hobbies, how was their weekend, what are they good at, what do they enjoy doing, what do they hate, how do they need/like to be supported. The best leaders adapt to their teams.

Ok, so here's me on Radio 4 yesterday, alongside the guy responsible for the 'Live Laugh Love' merchandise

bbc.co.uk/sounds/play/m0…

I now feel this whole feature was an attempt at product placement and it might be worth making an official complaint
Reasoning

- When I brought up #ToxicPositivity, host desperately tries to stop me (unsuccessfully I feel)
- Guest was allowed to talk about his new products, for no discernible reason
- phone in was "Where do you keep your LLL products?"

I mean, WTF?
Could just be me being overly sensitive to it though, as I feel they tried to use me to legitimize a commercial endorsement and I'm really not happy about that for various reasons

But if anyone listens to it and has any feedback, I'd be keen to hear it

Had several replies to this where people are very pleased to have been introduced to the concept of Toxic Positivity

It's not my phrase, it's been around a while, but here's #ToxicPositivity, as I understand it, as a guy who wrote a whole book on happiness in the brain

/1
In a nutshell, #ToxicPositivity is when the social pressure put on you to be happy and confident goes beyond any logical limit and becomes unreasonable, unrealistic, and often genuinely harmful.

/2
#ToxicPositivity is likely an inevitable product of the modern obsession with happiness, where we're made to believe that being happy should be our default state, and if we're not happy, then something must be wrong

Scientifically speaking, this is bullshit

1/7 Since @roundrockisd started it's 2016 @roundrockcurriculum project, & #rrisdtech's push 4 widespread use of Google Classroom/Chromebooks in elementary schools, & @HoldsworthCentr leadership training began consuming significant amts of #rrisd1family teachers' PD time...
2/7 No improvements 2 literacy/numeracy in @roundrock is indicated & declined for vulnerable student populations (including #SPED). Yet @roundrockisd still uses skills focused read'g strategies, while schls w/ better resources & lower teacher turnover deliver target'd support.
3/7 There are other valid issues/concerns/perspectives that members of @roundrockisd see and experience daily. #eduequity is a constant project that requires dedicated effort and HONEST self-reflection. The work is hard, but so WORTH IT!
