One of my cis kids wanted to be a dog for about a year. She wore a dog costume all the time at home and she would go about on all fours. I let her be a dog as much as she wanted.
The difference between a kid playacting to be an animal/superhero/insert transphobes' choice of inanimate object - and a trans child insisting they are a different gender to the one their parents assumed them to be - SHOULD be obvious - but as this argument is one I hear often
and one I have direct experience of, I thought I'd look at it.

My cis kid did not want to be a dog at school.
Not being a real dog caused her zero distress.
When people mistook her for a girl it did not bother her at all.
She knew she was a girl PRETENDING TO BE A DOG.

I seldom speak up in support of trans people because whenever I have done in the past I have been accused of being a misogynist and wishing harm on women. Anyone who knows me knows that is rubbish, but I’m a coward and don’t want the hassle. That’s my privilege. I can walk away.
If this is a problem for you, unfollow me by all means, but I am not going to debate with you. I am not going to discuss it with anyone who supports the narrative that ‘trans people are a problem’. #TransPeopleAreRealPeople

#TransPeopleAreRealPeople I'm 28. I work in foodservice. One day I'd like to move forward with veterinary tech training. I've had a rough start at life, but transitioning has been the best new start I could ever have. I became more honestly & genuinely myself.
I love writing, especially collaborative writing. I'd like to eventually self publish some small novels.
I enjoy games & crafts, I'm fascinated by biology & anatomy, and despite not having a bit of a green thumb I'm managing to grow some aloe and catnip.
I'm nonbinary, and I've been on testosterone for a year and a half. Like I said, it was a turning point in my life. I can't imagine where I'd be if I didn't accept who I am.
