#Tribute We learned with sadness of the death of Jacques Saurel at the age of 90. A Holocaust survivor, he was deported at age 11 to the "star camp" in Bergen-Belsen, with his mother and older sister. Our thoughts go out to his loved ones.
Jacques Saurel was born in Paris in 1933 into a Jewish family that had recently emigrated from Poland. During the war, Jacques's father, Henri Szarcenberg, was taken prisoner, which would save his family time.
However, in February 1944, Jacques, his brother, his older sister and Image
his mother were interned in Drancy for three months. They will be deported as hostages to the "star camp" in Bergen-Belsen. Thanks to the love and sacrifices of their mother, the children will be able to survive the very difficult conditions there.
With the arrival of prisoners

When you look back at things, they become clearer than when they actually happened. Irrfan always said, "You have a tendency to support the underdog, and hence we are together."

But now when the fog has cleared, and I can see everything without conditioning, I know it was destiny. We were meant to be together.

It was a hot summer afternoon in Delhi when I saw him for the first time.
A lanky, bespeckled young man in a black terry-cotton bellbottom and a light green printed shirt, with a leather sling bag from Rajasthan, walking towards the NSD lobby.

He was definitely not my type.

Jamshed Irani was only 32 when he joined the #TataSteel in 1968.
He quickly earned the reputation of a hard taskmaster and never took no for an answer. Image
Colleagues remember him as someone who knew the nitty-gritty of steelmaking.

A big feather in his cap was unfurling the #modernisation at the Jamshedpur plant, which included automation in the mid-1980s.
Recalling when he turned up on an occasional Sunday to check if everything was on track,a former colleague says,"His desire was to take Tata Steel to the 21st century & in every sense,he was the architect & the man who took complete charge of the implementation of every project."

1/ The first woman officer of the Indian Air Force (IAF), Wing Commander (retd) Ramanan passed away on Sunday at the age of 96 in Bengaluru. 👇
2/ "For quite some years, I was IAF's only lady officer. There may have been only a dozen women officers in the army & navy together. Initially, I was scared, but I was brave and thought to myself, I could face anything", recalled Ramanan in a 2018 interview to the Devi Project.
3/ A breaker of glass ceilings in the truest sense, Ramanan had more than one ‘first’ to her credit. She was not only the first woman to wear saree as uniform, she also designed the uniform.

The inspirational story of Shopian post Aug 5 2019.
A #thread.

#Shopian is the smallest & the newest district in #Kashmir, located 20 km eastwards of #Pulwama, its bountiful apple crop 3.5 lakh MT/year ensures that there is minimal poverty in the area.
(1/14) ImageImage
There is a strong sense of regional identity & #aspiration in #Shopian, however, repeated bouts of unrest over the last few years have disrupted its developmental trajectory, especially in 2016 after the #BurhanWani incident.
(2/14) Image
The post #Article370 transition in #Shopian was carefully directed & sublimely executed. The people showed great maturity & cooperated immensely, even as rumours of “outsider influx” & “demographic change” abounded.

1/ Among the menagerie of animals who call Rashtrapati Bhavan home is a deer called Tipu who was born with a defect in his foot.

Few know that, during his time as President, Dr Kalam oversaw the surgery that set Tipu's foot right.
2/ When Tipu's mother refused to accept him, Kalam also adopted him and for nine months, fed him milk from a bottle.

And Tipu was not the only case. A horse, belonging to Indian Army's only cavalry division (the 61st Cavalry), was operated for cataract inside Rashtrapati Bhavan.
3/ Hearing of this, a travelling circus camping outside New Delhi sought help from President Kalam for their star attraction, a hippopotamus, who also had cataract. He was also operated upon in Rashtrapati Bhavan.

Ajimobi Was a Great Man!

This is a strange and sad time. In less than 45 days, a number of our political allies and intimate companions have departed from our sphere to “Iwale asa” as our people will say.

Among the lost gems was my dear Egbon Isiaka Abiola Akanji Ajimobi, the immediate past governor of Oyo State.

His death has been very devastating in its impact on me.
Egbon was the only ally in the West to our cause and standing by Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu. He was steadfast and unflinching in his commitment to core Yoruba values and the defence of our leadership.
