122.01/ Week one-hundred and twenty two, November 12-18, 2022, thread begins here.

Week 121 below.

Hey, Twitter is still here. Nice to know.
122.03/ The first #MotzeiShabbatMovieNight of 5783 is the classic grim crime thriller "Batman"... actually, sorry, it's the camp classic "Batman (1966)". Why? Because it's referenced so often by later comedies & it's part of their education, of course.

121.01/ Week one-hundred and twenty one, November 5-11, 2022, thread begins here.

Week 120 below. Who knows how long I'll get to keep doing this, sigh.
121.02/ Good metaphor.

However, to me, it feels like 2012 during Hurricane Sandy, waiting for the power to go out.

121.03/ This is what I mean. There's a completely preventable, maliciously negligent, technology collapse coming soon.

105.01/ Week one-hundred and five, July 16-22, 2022, thread begins here.

The #ThreeWeeks begin here as well, sorry.

Week 104 below.
105.02/ Wait, hold on, the longest hottest fast day - #ShivaAsarBiTammuz - is #NationalIceCreamDay?! This is both irritatingly annoying... and religiously satisfying. We get extra credit for the fast!

nj.com/food/2022/07/n…
105.03/ Gotta hand it to #ShivaAsarBiTammuz this year, it's getting its money's worth because I'm feeling really terrible. Excellent quality, consistent results. A well-crafted day of affliction. 5 stars on yelp and/or five yelps.

84.01/ Week eighty-four, February 19-25, 2022 thread begins here.

Week 83 below.
84.02/ #MotzeiShabbatMovieNight put off a night because of social obligations. Monday is a legal holiday so we will hopefully have movie night tomorrow night.
84.03/ Couldn't be happier, or prouder, as a #Steelers fan to see they hired Brian Flores to be a senior coach. The team gets top notch talent and they take an anti-racist stand. And, as seen below, it earns respect from players:

Week 77 below.
78.02/ #MotzeiShabbatMovieNight, John Woo's "Paycheck"
Why? (1) Underrated sci-fi action mystery, (2) we saw Mission:Impossible 2 wks ago and it's sequel is by Jon Woo... but it's terrible while this movie is great and almost the same genre

1/ I try to find the balance of compassion & truth/justice - with a determined bias for the former - but that's nearly impossible in wartime - and I've said many times: we are in a #ColdCivilWar. See: the insurrection, gun nuts, the RedHat driven passive genocide via COVID, etc.
2/ I despair for those who think we're at peace - which is the majority of Americans - but they can be helpful resources because they want "normal" again and the RedHats are anything but. The insurrection showed that.
3/ But those who know it's war & claim they consider RedHats the enemy yet attack the Democrats from the Left are baffling to me.

There are only two options right now, but they seem to think there's a third which the Dems are against so there's "no difference" between the big 2.

1/ Since the beginning of the #TrumpCrisis, I've had ever increasingly difficult #YomKippur davening because of the burden I feel to act as a 'sanegor' (defender) for my community and for the Jewish world at large.

(This is in addition to the vast ways I need to improve myself)
2/ I'm not a gadol, a posek, or anything close to a tzadik. But after seeing so many rebbeim & gedolim openly support Trump (ym'sh), erase women from Jewish life, and encourage anti-vax shtuyot, I considered the tenuous possibility that I would need to act as a communal sanegor.
3/ With the established leadership descending into avoda-zara (DJT), shefichat-damim (COVID denial) & arayot (dehumanizing women), I needed to step up - out of safek-nefashot - and use all of my halakhic, rhetorical & philosophical ability to devise kappara for the Am Kadosh.

#ChodeshTov everyone! Happy #Elul, the "deep breath before the plunge" (as Gandalf says).

Week 55 thread is below.
56.02/ Excellent shibboleth action here from Rabbi Ruttenberg, in a benevolent, non-murdery, way, of course.

56.03/ Honored with #haftara yesterday but it had been so long since I last did one that my eyesight has gotten bad enough that I was juggling a mask, fogged glasses, & the too small print of even a full-size Artscroll. And why did Yeshayahu have to make up so many weird words?!

53.01/ Week fifty-three, July 17-23, 2021, begins here. #TishaBeav today, so no real greeting. May next year, we have a fleishig #9Av

I've been making these organized threads for a year. Fitting that anniversary should be on the saddest day of the year.

Week 52 below:
53.02/ To listen to music today, I have the leining of #Eicha on a loop. One source is the Eidut Mizrach version from Mechon-Mamre:

51.03/ Rabbi Regan is 100% right. I describe this as "banning straws" activism - something that doesn't solve a systemic or even immediate problem while actively hurting others. As a bonus, the straw-ban helped the company's bottom line.

46.01/ Week Forty-six, May 29-June 4 2021, begins here.

Week 45 below:
46.02/ Attempting the "Not starting every email/tweet with the word 'so' challenge." This is comes after "Not starting every etc with 'well'"

I understand this is common for academics. In my observation: "well" is to state your hypothesis, "so" the next step in analysis.
46.03/ I just spent hours writing a thread and for some reason the screen skipped and I lost everything. It's hard to explain how destructive this is. First time it's happened and now I will know to continuously back up writing in a side document. But I'm mildly perturbed.

44.01/ Week Forty-four, May 15-21 2021, begins here.

[note: Forty should have a 'u' in it, no? English is a weird language.]

Week 43 below:
44.02/ So many people I assumed were motivated by greed (for money, abstract resources) and/or power are actually driven by ego. This discovery required a major retooling of my understanding of moral philosophy

e.g. during the #TrumpCrisis people risked their lives just for ego
44.03/ Long thread about 'fear' (45 Posts)

43.02/ Sunday was wonderful but exhausting. It was my daughter's Bat Mitzvah and we turned it into a celebration for her two grandmothers on #MothersDay as well. It was socially distanced, highly zoomed, and amazing. But I'm wrung out like a sponge.

1/ My list of favorite women to follow in honor of #InternationalWomensDay

For reference, here are my lists for 2019 & 2020. Since then I've added more (and taken a few off).

2/ This year I want to spend time highlighting voices - in no particular order - that I consider crucial weekly reading (I print out threads to read over Shabbat b/c during the week I'm working so for me the best time for reflective Twitter is when I can't do other melakha)
3/ I've mentioned before that I use thread-readers often - how else could I read over Shabbat - but some of my favorites don't allow access. But I'm putting on this list those who I find valuable enough that I *would* thread if it was available.

32.01/ Week thirty-two (Feb. 20-26) thread begins here. Week 31 - which was broken into three pieces like Gaul - is linked below:

32.02/ Well put. The key difference is whether they can treat people, any person, as having equal humanity no matter their abilities/background and not as a collection of specific identities.
32.03/ The GOP & 'conservatives' seem to lack empathy & an ability to imagine others having a different mindset from their own. They don't care about right vs wrong, only Us v. Them, so they assume we're the same. Their mentality is insulting but revealing

31.52b/ This is a continuation of the week 31 (Feb. 13-19) thread which is getting too big for stable threading. This is an experiment for this week: to split a thread when it gets to 50 or so.

Part one is here:
31.53/ I've been thinking the same thing (not so well put, of course). How did Skype become the fax machine of this tech crisis?
31.54/ This is good to see! I'm glad the effects are empirically demonstrated.

It's nice when virtue is demonstrably effective. Social science for the win!

28.02/ One of my largest lists "News2016," started early in the #TrumpCrisis, has this tagline: "Started for the 2016 election, persists until Trump (ym'sh) is gone"

I don't want to delete the valuable list but I'll change the name/tag to honor my promise

28.03/ My 14yo son's idea for fixing the "worst rule in sports" aka the #NFL #FumbleTouchbackRule: it's a touchback but retained by the offense. So the ball is placed on the opponent 20, but the down is retained.

27.02/ I was just teaching my children about the wonders of my childhood toys, including the one time I got for my birthday a Lite Brite and the amazing Shrinky-dinks.
27.03/ Played "Lawyers, Guns & Money" for my 11yo daughter who thought it was hilarious & suggested we change rock, paper, scissors to those 3

rock = guns (weapon) 🔫
paper = money 💵
scissors = upside-down for 2 feet (lawyer is a type of person, no?) 🤦🏽

Week 24 thread was here:
25.02/ We've been blaming 2020 for our troubles, but maybe it's b/c it was the Year of the Rat? Acc. to chinesenewyear.net/zodiac/rat/ "In Chinese culture, rats were seen as a sign of wealth and surplus" and if that doesn't describe 2020, what does? (P.S. I was born in a ratty year)
25.03/ This is about the can-opener guy and, yes, he's abusive but strangely proud of it showing us that the AITA topics are possibly not as made up as we assumed.

I pray that when DJT is deposed & disposed these people will feel stigma again.

20.02/ I was this years old when I learned that many families use Thanksgiving as the official "kick off" for Xmas season, and that's why eschewing it (this year) is esp. hard.

I've also heard people say T-giving is the "Holidays" for "Happy Holidays"... ah, no. It's Hanukkah
