So, a mocked-up video of POTUS (a edited version of the church scene of Kingsman, irony aside for this thread) shooting multiple left-wing individuals and organisations, and multiple press agencies is circulating after it was shown at a conference for Trump supporters. (1/3)
Whilst I concede the video was not sanctioned by the event organisers, such a video being shown and circulated widely is objectively dangerous, as journalists in the past have been threatened, even to the point of bombs actually being sent to press agencies and individuals. (2/3)
A free and unthreatened press is important in any society, and a balanced one is crucially important too. In my opinion, it was right for the press to report the video, as information is key, but I worry for whether wider awareness could lead to repercussions (3/3) #TrumpVideo

By not condemning the mass shooting video shown to his supporters at his own resort, Trump is further endangering the lives of Americans

In fact, given Trump’s track record, it’s easy to picture him retweeting the video himself. As @Sulliview writes, “in many, many ways, he has unleashed a vile hatred of journalists that is playing out before our eyes. And it couldn’t be more dangerous.” washingtonpost.com/lifestyle/styl…
Also notable: According to the Washington Post, the creator of a website associated with the #TrumpVideo “scored an Oval Office meeting in July with Trump, who reportedly welcomed him as a ‘genius.’” washingtonpost.com/nation/2019/10…

The #TrumpVideo is no joke. From my reporting (see thread) a year ago:

“According to half a dozen law enforcement & security leaders I spoke with, the targeting of journalists has steadily intensified in the Trump era...bomb threats, vows of assault, rape, and mass shootings.”
“We’ve had multiple cases of people using the same rhetoric as the president,” a source at a top TV network told me about the threats.

A guy who targeted the Boston Globe: “You’re the enemy of the people, and we’re going to kill every fucking one of you.” motherjones.com/politics/2018/…
In my experience, senior US law enforcement officials usually don’t talk about politics. But they didn’t see this issue as politics: “It’s dangerous for the president to walk this line of basically inciting violence. Most people won’t act on it, but sooner or later someone will.”
