Coach travelling Sheffield Utd fans effectively banned from Cardiff this Saturday. While they can go to the match v CCFC that’s all they can do

Any freedom of movement and association they were looking forward to has been severely curtailed by police

A thread 🧵1.
I’ve just spoken to a SUFC supporter who has organised coaches for several years. His passengers comprise men, women and teenagers. None of them have caused or ever been in trouble. They’re just ordinary people who happen to support a football club and follow them away. 🧵2.
Despite this match being scheduled back in the summer, the police have only been in touch within the last few days to advise that draconian Traffic Commissioner Guidelines are to be enforced for all coaches travelling to this match. 🧵3.

Sheffield United’s 2020/21 accounts covered a season when they finished 20th in the Premier League, leading to relegation after a two-year spell in the top flight. Manager Chris Wilder was replaced by Paul Heckingbottom (interim basis). Some thoughts follow #SUFC #twitterblades
This was the second year under new #SUFC owner Prince Abdullah after the High Court ruled that Kevin McCabe had to sell his 50% share to the Prince. This also triggered an agreement whereby the club had to purchase the stadium, training facility, gym, hotel and offices for £38m.
#SUFC pre-tax profit fell from £19m to £10m, as revenue dropped £28m (20%) from club record £143m to £115m and profit on player sales decreased £3m to £1m, partly offset by operating expenses falling £21m (17%). Net interest payable was up £1.7m to £2.5m.

Thread - Rhian Brewster #sufc

The 20 year old striker earns a club record move to the Blades. Here's what Blades fans can expect to see with Brewster's strengths/areas of improvement highlighted and what i feel he'll add to the Blades front line.
Using @insightMrkt player profiles tool we can see that based on his small time at Swansea Brewster was a clinical & accurate shooter. Over performing his xG by a large amount considering the sample but still getting into good enough areas and getting a lot of shots away Image
Brewster is very different from the current Blades crop. He isn't a striker who waits for big chances in the box only, as soon as he has a sight of the goal he strikes ball. His ball striking technique is excellent, often on target and with power so that GKs have to parry.

🚨 TRANSFER ALERT 🚨

Rhian Brewster is reportedly close to a move from Liverpool to Sheffield United. At first glance, the 20-year-old's stats from last season with Swansea don't look too impressive at a Premier League standard. But read on...

1/4 #LFC #TwitterBlades #SUFC Image
Brewster was involved in a surprisingly high share of Swansea's goals while on the pitch despite being part of less than 40% of its shots. One reason was his finishing, which was well above par and partly made up for his low underlying output in attack.

2/4 Image
As Brewster's smartermap shows, he was active all over the attacking half for Swansea and got into good positions to shoot. He liked to shoot head-on from the GK's right and at more oblique angles from the GK's left. Overall he was more active in the right channel.

In all seriousness it shows that for a number of reasons we simply don't have the finances this summer to get a 1st choice striker who isn't some form of gamble. I've said this a million times but this is where opening up to options from the continent can be of huge help.
That's not to say we aren't of course but clearly domestic based targets were the 1st option which is fine but they come with a heavy price package

So Oli Burke arrives at #sufc and there's alot of sniggering from other clubs!

Here's his 19/20 (at Alaves) and 18/19 (at Celtic) profiles. Certainly didn't enhance his name last season in Spain but promising signs in a dominant Celtic team under Rodgers from @insightMrkt ImageImage
So where will he play and what will he bring?

In short - PACE and POWER.

I think he lacks technically & tactically but from a physical standpoint we don't have anyone like him. Over 6ft, raw pace and acceleration and physically very strong.
Sheff Utd lacked the ability to create shots out of nothing and dribblers last season. We had to work our attacking patterns to extreme to fashion a chance. Burke has ability to drive with ball at speed with directness

🚨 TRANSFER ALERT 🚨

Sheffield United have raided Derby for their fullbacks, reportedly for £11m total. Let's start with Jayden Bogle, who was featured in our Ultimate Second-Tier XI a while back: smarterscout.com/articles/champ…

1/8 #SUFC #TwitterBlades
Bogle is a smarterscout young prospect, which means our algorithm flagged him to star at a higher level. Here are his stats at a Premier League standard – already above average in our model ratings at RB, but mediocre so far in duels. Defending quality improved in 2019-20!

2/8 Image
Bogle used a lot of short passes on the right flank, but as he got close to the box there were more dribbles and longer passes thrown in. That's usually good for a fullback – cross if the defender steps off, take him on if he's in close.

Final thread.....Ethan Ampadu!

No data profile from here due to lack of senior minutes BUT plenty of video to go into below......
So where will he play? Will he play? What's he good at?

My belief is EA covers RCB, DM & if needed CB.

RCB - Can he drive out of the defense ala Chris Basham?

This is in a back 4 for Wales in recent game vs Bulgaria. I love this clip for a whole lot of overlapping CB reasons.
Ampadu will immediately be the most 2 footed player in the Blades squad. He's right footed, but look at his ability, technique and range he has on his left foot.

His composure to lift his head and try chipped passes like this rather than just lofted longer passes is a key skill

Jayden Bogle also joins SUFC from DCFC. Bogle had a slight dip in his incredible 18/19 form this season (chart also included). ImageImage
The creative output in 18/19 was sensational. in all he's amassed 14 assists in 77 Championship games and whilst that output slowed this season, the numbers suggest large elements of his game were still excellent he just didn't have final ball this year.
Bogle's main attribute without doubt is his dribbling 1v1 and ball carrying ability. He's frankly excellent. His balance, ability to dip inside or go to the byline and his agility are winger esque.

Max Lowe joins SUFC from #dcfc. Lowe's real breakthrough came from a great season at Aberdeen which Derby looked at to then take a chance on him. Lowe is athletic without being overly quick, but a good dribbler. He's strong physically in challenges and has good quality with ball Image
Lowe has a similar technical capacity to Enda Stevens. Clip below shows his ability to pick his head up and find good, froward passes to progress the ball with ease.
Lowe statistically hasn't been as cross heavy as Stevens in recent seasons but it's worth showing that due a good technical ball striking delivery he can find excellent balls into the box if given space to do so.

So #sufc bring our boy back home.

@AaronRamsdale98 returns to the Blades and i've highlighted some of his key strengths with some quick video that i feel show what he does very well.
Rambo is excellent at holding his shape in 1v1s. Maintains good size & positioning, closes the angle. Makes himself big and has good reactions too.
I like his speed off the line. Times his decision to aggressively charge down the forward perfectly here right on the 1st touch to make him panic. Comparing him to Deano may be unfair overall but in this area i think Rambo is more aggressive and decisive

🚨 TRANSFER ALERT 🚨

Antonee Robinson is leaving Wigan for Sheffield United at a cost of £2m. He's a smarterscout young prospect who's outstanding on the ball and an aggressive defender. His ball retention is low... not that it's a problem if you're playing Wilderball. 🙇‍♂️

1/2 Image
Robinson's dribbling gives Sheffield United something different on the left, as you can see in this comparison with Enda Stevens (slightly different scales for the two positions). He can improve attacking and tackling, but for £2m it's a worthwhile project.

2/2 #TwitterBlades Image
P.S. Robinson dribbles a lot and is very good at resisting challenges, but his passing isn't terribly incisive, hence low attacking output. His overall ball retention is low, which can mean he takes a lot of risks, has trouble completing passes, or both. Data ➡️ good questions

Ramsdale had a great start to the season. But his shot-stopping rating for non-headers in open play began to fall after the consecutive defeats to Newcastle and Wolves, when Bournemouth dropped out of the top half of the table. It never really recovered.

#TwitterBlades #Cherries Image
Those matches weren't necessarily the pivotal ones – the goals were from set pieces and headers – but Ramsdale's reactions after Dele Alli's brace for Spurs in the next match might give a hint on his state of mind. Just guesswork, of course:
That period also coincided with Steve Cook's absence from the lineup. With him gone, Ramsdale might have had more responsibility for running the back line, which could have affected his ability to concentrate on shotstopping. Again, guesswork. Over to you, @peterrutzler. #AFCB

🚨 TRANSFER ALERT 🚨

Another GK leaving the Scottish Premiership for the Premier League is Wes Foderingham, to Sheffield United from Rangers. He's an outstanding shot-stopper for non-headers, also struggles with headers. Good defender in 2017-18. Stats at a PL standard:

1/3 Image
Foderingham stayed pretty close to his line in 2017-18, looking for shorter passes near the corners of the box but otherwise longer balls. He's too good to sit on the bench in Scotland.

2/3 #TwitterBlades #SUFC Image
And Foderingham has more than a whiff of Hugo Lloris about him in style and substance, as this comparison shows (both at a Premier League standard). Unsurprisingly Lloris is the better all-around shot-stopper, but still lots to like in Foderingham.
