They can coexist.
Pathophysiology of both is complex.
I have lost close friends & family to complications of both types. Including my sister. I am now raising her kids.

It is indeed difficult to handle and understand this condition. But why’s that?
Although we can eat the same thing and inject the same amount of insulin, there are other things to consider.

Carb intake, protein, fats, fiber, exercise, stress, hormones, stress, support system, and a lot many other factors that fluctuate on a regular basis.
👉Some eat a low-carb diet and still have high blood sugar levels.

👉Some cannot prick every day because it does hurt!

(a) is unlikely, I think, my vote is with (b). With regards to age, I think >8 years (as in TN-10) will be a requirement, given the SEs associated with teplizumab.

You may have heard the phrase "Alzheimer's Disease (AD) is Type 3 Diabetes" & wondered what that meant. Whelp my diabuddies I'm sorry to say that Diabetes (esp w/ sustained hyperglycemia) is a risk factor for AD. But it's a two-way street, it turns out AD is a risk factor for T2.
Lemme explain how diabetes increases AD risk 1st:
-Hyperglycemia, or high-blood sugars wreak havoc on the tiny blood vessels that snake their way through your feet, eyes, & yes, your brain is full of them (this is why it's important to have your feet & eyes checked diababes!)

HLA influence autoimmune risk. 2 non-exclusive hypotheses: i) the peripheral hypothesis, where HLA risk alleles increase binding to antigens ii) the central hypothesis, where HLA risk alleles influence thymic selection to select for antigen reactive T cell receptors (TCRs).
The CDR3 region of TCR recognizes antigens. CDR3 diversity in the repertoire gives the immune system its ability to respond to many antigens. If central hypothesis plays a role in HLA mediated risk, then the HLA alleles might influence CDR3 composition during thymic selection.
During the presidential debate yesterday @realDonaldTrump made a false claim about the price of insulin. He said “I’m getting it for so cheap, it’s like water.” I think millions of people living with diabetes in the U.S would disagree. #diabetes #type1diabetes
If that were true, there would be no need for people to ration insulin, no need to advocate for affordable insulin, no one needlessly dying because they couldn’t afford their diabetes medication. Here is what it would be like if water was the same price as insulin ($300 for 10ml)
