This past winter, I was invited to read a poem at @UMich President Santa Ono's inauguration and given the impression that I could determine the poem's content. I pitched a poem about my single mother returning to college in her 40s as a non-traditional student. 🧵
In response, I received these new guidelines from a member of the Office of University Development Image
The idea of writing a “gift” for a high-level administrator I’d never met didn’t sit well with me, nor did the idea of an inaugural poem celebrating the president vs. collective issues and ideals. I politely declined.

I'm planning on carefully reading the new working paper on #mentalhealth of grad students in 8 top econ departments (including #UMich's) this afternoon. I'm debating whether to tweet while I read. Here's the link to the paper (by Barreira et al.) scholar.harvard.edu/files/bolotnyy…

At a #UMich Rackham Grad School training on best practices for graduate admissions, focused on diversity & excellence in grad admissions.
Sitting next to @twittkopp. @sbarolo decided to sit at another table. (I guess that's where the cool kids are?)
One thing that is being highlighted are the criteria for the Rackham Merit Fellowships. Proud to have two Rackham Merit Fellows in my lab!
