#Sudan Alarming violence reports from Al Junaynah, West #Darfur.

Just 1 week ago, the Sudanese attorney general announced the start of the investigation into Darfur crimes + a criminal case was opened against former president al-Bashir on charges of crimes against humanity.
Tonight, I spoke with people in Al Junaynah. The promise of a new #Sudan is distant in #Darfur: thousands of displaced are fighting hunger, diseases + live in fear of violence.

Some are accusing @SudanPMHamdok of being too slow in setting transitional structures at states level.
. @SudanPMHamdok & the RSF commander Hemeti - who is a member of the Sovereign Council - visited west #Darfur to inspect the security situation & to call for reconciliation. People in Al Junaynah are asking for an independent inquiry & an investigation by #UNAMID (@unamidnews). Image

#Sudan @amnesty is confirming they have new evidence, including satellite imagery, showing that Sudanese government forces, including the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) & allied militias, have continued to commit war crimes and other serious human rights violations in #Darfur
As part of the mandated of reconfiguration of #UNAMID, the mission has begun to withdraw from various bases in #Darfur. These bases have been converted in #RSF bases, in violation of commitments made by #Khartoum and in violation as well of international law.
About #UNAMID drawdown:

In 2017 and 2018, UN has decided to reduce the number of UN troops, close the majority of its bases, and reconfigure the remainder of the mission to focus on the protection of civilians in the #Jebel_Marra region of #Darfur
