“This journey to #Washington from #Zelenskiy, it is an act of desperation."

Disgraceful from #Germany’s main, public-funded news ‘analysis’ show .

-why? Short🧵
Patronising Ukrainians & underrating #Ukraine's progress on the battlefield has been a consistent feature of Germany's public debate this year. From so-called intellectuals behind the #emmaoffenerbrief to the chief of Germany's military.

While so many of #Germany's population have been inspired by #Ukraine's courageous resistance & resourcefulness in the face of Russia's horrific attack, many in Germany's establishment seem unable to share in that positive sentiment.

Some thoughts about the military perspective about what just happened in #Izyum / #Kharkov.
First let's talk about Kharkov in general. This region was very poorly defended by #Ukraine|ians the last few months. #Russia took the initiative and started a pinning operation.
2/
This was executed with very few troops as well, because more wasn't needed for the degree of resistance in this place. The goal of a pinning and holding operation is, to draw #Ukraine|ian troops away from other important frontline section, just to defend this "unimportant"

#UkraineRussianWar

There are 3 main scenarios how this conflict could evolve going forward. Each of those scenario has certain probabilities of it occurring. Lets examine each one of them and their implications to the world in general:
Scenario 1 - (P:60%) #Ukarine & #Russia agree a ceasefire. Ukraine agrees to cede #Crimea and #Donbass to #Russia. #Putin withdraws #RussianArmy. #Europe over a period of time removes #sanctions. In a year, World becomes normal & everyone lives happily. Best outcome possible.
Scenario 2 - (P:30%) The conflict escalates. stalemate ensues. #Putin reaches #Dniper, takes over Kyiv. #Ukraine is bi-furcated in two - #EastUkraine under #Russian control, #WestUkraine aligned with #NATO. #SanctionsRussiaNow continue for long. #Europe consolidates with #USA

We're seeing increasingly heavy shelling of residential areas in #Ukarine. Alongside the massive civilian costs of the use of explosive force in cities, we also need to consider how this indiscriminate practice impacts the environment, and as a result, human health. 🧵🔽 1/x Image
2/x When buildings are hit, building materials are pulverised, generating large volumes of dust. PBM dusts are typically a heterogeneous mixture of materials, such as cement, metals, PCBs, silica, asbestos and other synthetic fibres. ceobs.org/conflict-rubbl…
3/x In spite of this being an issue in every conflict where heavy weapons are used in populated areas, research on these dusts and exposures is largely absent, as with most chronic health exposures linked to conflict.
