Texas Republicans:

Blue Lives Matter --- unless we want guns everywhere
Private Property Rights --- unless we want a wall
Personal Autonomy --- unless it's women
Local Control --- unless it's big cities
Justice --- unless it's Black people
Stay Out of Bedrooms --- unless your gay
Stay out of doctor's offices --- unless your trans
Let Teachers Teach --- unless its something that makes us mildly uncomfortable, like race and slavery
Small Government --- unless it's creating a massive police state
Before you cry and moan about the Black people bit... the bills that tired to delete "Confederate Heroes Day" in Texas went no where.

The bill to actually allow ethnic studies count for school credit... dead.

People are back to remember the #ChicanoMoratorium. Times are different but many problems are the same ImageImageImage
Today’s #ChicanoMoratorium events remember the 3 who died in East LA 50 yrs ago today, incl journalist & civil rights leader Ruben Salazar. He was killed when police threw a tear gas canister into the Silver Dollar Bar.

His image faces that building.

Vacaville Youth, We need to talk about Kayli Jefferson-Henkel.
Sr. Airman Kayli Jefferson-Henkel was found dead in her home in Vacaville, CA by her male roommate on July 11th, 2019. His story about how he found her has not been disputed or questioned in any way. Kayli’s mother (Kim Jefferson) requested a private autopsy, but was denied one.
Kim wasn’t allowed to see her daughter’s body for ELEVEN DAYS. Had she not requested to be alerted when her daughter’s body arrived at the chapel, then she would have never seen her daughter’s TRUE injuries!

Make that 15. 💔 This article is from 5 years ago, 2015. [Thread] #VanessaGuillen #LaVenaJohnson news.stlpublicradio.org/post/10-years-…
Exactly 15 years ago this month, #LaVenaJohnson's family received her badly-beaten body. Her vagina had burned because lye (or some other burn chemical) has been poured over it. #VanessaGuillen #LaVenaJohnson Image
What's more? For literally every orifice in which people commonly have sex (and/or are assaulted) — her vagina, anus, and mouth — someone had removed her body parts. #LaVenaJohnson

@UWM This is the pathetic response from University of #Wisconsin, #Milwaukee about senior lecturer retired @usairforce Lt Col Betsy Schoeller's disgusting #Facebook post about Vanessa Guillen's death. #VanessaGuillen #JusticeForVanessaGullien #FireBetsySchoeller @ProtectRDfnders
@UWM #Facebook posts are NOT PRIVATE. In #Ohio, college professors don't get tenure if they talk about "controversial topics" like mental illness concerns or #homeless individuals' #CivilRights on social media. If you don't have a #SocialMedia policy, you should. @ProtectRDfnders
@UWM @ProtectRDfnders: Army soldier Vanessa Guillen's horrific murder been a trigger for countless #veterans suffering from #PTSD from #military sexual #trauma. A reprehensible #Facebook post from fellow veteran Betsy Schoeller has further exacerbated it. #MilitarySexualTrauma

When I was a midshipman, I was a witness for a rape accusation (the guy literally bragged to me about what he did). Men in my company who had known me for years prior to school refused to believe this guy would do something like rape someone. The local paper ran an article 1/
after the guy and his skeezy lawyer leaked details of the case. These details basically made the victim and the witnesses (including me) look like whores who were banging the entire brigade (not true). Even though the paper did not print any names except for the accused 2/
everyone knew who was being referenced. The men in my company printed out the article and covered the victim’s the door and our company spaces with it. I was specifically pressured by someone who I thought was my friend to retract my statement. I remember him screaming at me 3/

Reading lots about the #VanessaGuillen story and am seeing related stories to mental health in regard to military and recruiting.

The reality is the military recruits those with a poorly formed sense of self, leading to acceptance of environments that are morally questionable.
2/ I cannot speak for the army, marines, or air force but will speak to my experience as a submariner and my perception of those I served with for 20 years.

Mental health was not allowed to be a focus.

If you mentioned the word suicide in any serious context you were removed.
3/ That being said it was common place for us to routinely joke about suicide, and physical harm to ourselves and others, to the effect of normalizing being in an environment that is inherently harmful to the human body.

#VanessaGuillen's disappearance & slow response from Army command brings up so much. First, this family in pain deserves closure & justice. #FindVanessaGuillen wapo.st/2YJCVaz
But we also need to be talking more broadly about military's failure to address sexual harassment & assault of troops by colleagues & superiors. After 30+ years of "zero tolerance" policies, assaults & harassment keeps going up: bit.ly/2BOKjbG
Too often military not only fails to address sexual assaults & harassment - victims are the ones who face punitive or administrative discipline instead of the perpetrators: bit.ly/3i7Y0Df
