125.03/ #ByeJake. I wish he could've stayed a Met, because every start of his was a pleasure to anticipate & enjoy. Bad seasons were endurable when he took the mound. At his best, he was the best baseball could be. Here's one of his finest moments. #LGM

20.02/ I was this years old when I learned that many families use Thanksgiving as the official "kick off" for Xmas season, and that's why eschewing it (this year) is esp. hard.

I've also heard people say T-giving is the "Holidays" for "Happy Holidays"... ah, no. It's Hanukkah

In our parsha, Joseph does something unusual. Revealing himself to his brothers, fully aware that they will suffer shock and then guilt as they remember how it is that their brother is in Egypt, he reinterprets the past.
Previously, it was a story of kidnap and injustice. Now, it has become a story of Divine providence and redemption. It wasn’t you, he tells his brothers, it was God. You didn’t realise that you were part of a larger plan.

THREAD -> Having said twice that his name will no longer be Jacob, the #Torah continues to call him Jacob. So do we, every time we pray to the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob. How so, when the Torah twice tells us that his name will no longer be Jacob?
Read the angel’s statement to Jacob not as, “You will no longer be called Jacob but Israel.” Instead read it as, “Let your name no longer be Jacob but #Israel,” meaning, “Act in such a way that this is what people call you.”

Moral dilemmas are situations in which doing the right thing is not the end of the matter. The conflict may be inherently tragic.
Jacob, in this parsha, finds himself trapped in such a conflict: on the one hand, he ought not allow himself to be killed; on the other, he ought not kill someone else; but he must do one or the other.
