Jetlag kicked me hard all week after #WD2019, but (silver lining!) having to stay in bed for so long gave me time to read articles I would've added to my "to be read someday" pile. I thought I'd share 5 of the most powerful with you Sunday readers. Ready? Issa thread.
My fav: @ElizaTalks' ode to the feminists breaking the taboos re sexual pleasure in Ghana: @TheSugaDuga @kobbyagraham & @nas009, founder of the revolutionary @adventurefrom. Our stories, told by one of us! Somebody send the link to Cherie Blair.

As we go #BlueForSudan online, @OmniaShawkat invites us to dig deeper. She reflects on how the political sphere missed the opportunity to engage Sudan's youth and women and failed to recognize their power. Published on the amazing @AfriFeminists platform.

@SheDecidesGFI and @thepleasureproj's "Because She Decides to Seek Pleasure" is the session I wasn't gonna miss!

Great to finally see sexual pleasure on the agenda of meetings like #WD2019. Next frontier: at least one Black/African woman on the panel?

"Mindfulness is the key to pleasurable sex": being fully in the moment is how we know what feels good, what seems wrong, etc. "If you're going to have sex, why not show up for it? - @DrLoriBrotto at #WD2019 session on #Pleasure by @SheDecidesGFI & @thepleasureproj.
Fascinating!

Learning some serious facilitation tips from Auntie @MaameAfon at @MastercardFdn session on "Enhancing Gender Equity and Reclaiming Power through Transformative Art". 7am sessions are against everything I stand for, but this a psession worth getting out of bed for!

As an artist, how do you elevate your community? "I collaborate with my competition, I embrace my competition" - Heather Dickson, a Tinglit & Nuxalk First Nation fashion designer from Whitehorse, Yukon at #WD2019 session by @MastercardFdn. See her work on Insta: dicksondesigns
Ghanaian photographer @NK_Acquah tells the story of this stunning photograph of 3 sisters who were married off as children, then accused of witchcraft and sent to witch camps. Gave me chills.

"Who decides when a woman is a woman? Is her agency ever enough?" The young women from @GirlBeHeard set the stage on fire at #WD2019 session on feminist philanthropy beautifully hosted by @MATCHIntFund. Excited to see @aminaolayiwola @OhTimehin and @pruncie on the same panel! Image
The corporate world celebrates failure as learning but "in our community, any failure could cause your demise". "So how can we create enough incubation spaces to try and fail?" Great point by @jbobalotta of @AstraeaUpdates at @MATCHIntFund Feminist Frontlines session #WD2019
I'm taking to heart @pruncie's strategies for success at Feminist frontlines session by @MATCHIntFund at #WD2019: come prepared (like Beyoncé ahead of Coachella!), be clear on your unique added value and be okay with sticking to what you're good at, and build solidarity. Thanks! Image

What does it take to host a good and lively panel? @FemiOke @BEWAJ & the other fabulous ladies from Moderate The Panel, a group of women journalists and professional communicators are showing us in an exciting #WD2019 session with @angeliquekidjo @djswitchghana and @almmura Image
@angeliquekidjo, one of the greatest voices in African (and certainly my personal favorite), tells @FemiOke about her mission to educate, not just entertain. I'm loving this session by Moderate the panel at #WD2019! Image
@angeliquekidjo still dropping gems at @FemiOke & @BEWAJ's Moderate The Panel session at #WD2019: "Our story has been told by people who colonized and enslaved us for so long. It's about time we told it ourselves". Preach Auntie! Definitely the spirit that got me to start Eyala. Image

And we're here! Kicking off a week of strategic discussions about women's rights at #WD2019 in Vancouver. Huge thanks to @WomenDeliver & @YouthDeliver for creating this powerful space. Image
Throughout #WD2019 I'll be keeping an eye out for discussions about #ThePowerOf feminist sisterhood - an issue that's not big on the #WD2019 agenda, even though the spirit is strongly felt. We can't take down patriarchy if our community isn't anchored in solidarity and sisterhood Image

@WomenDeliver's global conference is coming soon! I'm excited to grow the Eyala community and to reconnect with the amazing African feminists who have kept it so vibrant thus far. Will you be there? Let me know! Know someone I should meet? Tag them 👇🏾

Looking at the (amazing) #WD2019 programme I wonder how, as African feminists, we can show up as our full selves in a space where we are typically expected to limit our contribution to just expertise, just testimonies, etc. I apologize in advance for all my nosy questions!
@fatenaggad @catherinenyamb1 @wamburay @NaisolaL @DinahRwiza @FlaviaMwaka @annytenga @Aliben86 @livingtruely @muthonie...will you be there? Know an amazing African feminist who' will be attending? Let me know! I'm plotting a secret #Afrifem get-together...
