WHO is working to track down the animal reservoir of the #COVID19 virus. Understanding how an epidemic began is essential to preventing further introductions to the human population.
In May, the #WHA73 passed a resolution tasking WHO, @OIEAnimalHealth, @FAO and countries, as part of the One Health Approach, with identifying the zoonotic source of the #COVID19 virus and the route of introduction to humans.
@OIEAnimalHealth @FAO Given the scale and complexity of the #COVID19 pandemic, a sustained set of investigations in #China and elsewhere is needed to find the intermediate host(s) and virus origins.

Including his criticism of China and US handling pandemic, prospect of WHO self-scrutiny…
2. United Nations' David Kaye on #WHA73:

"There is especially good reason for the WHO .... I am not sure the resolution the World Health Assembly adopted on Tuesday will provide the basis for the kind of scrutiny the pandemic demands."

Regular #covid19 presser @WHO starts with @drtedros talking about World Health Assembly which ended yesterday (and was held virtually for the first time): "We saw unprecedented solidarity”, he says then thanks a long list of presidents and prime ministers for taking part.
@WHO @DrTedros Says if #WHA73 resolution is implemented it would ensure "a more coherent, coordinated and fairer #COVID19 response that saves both lives and livelihoods"
@WHO @DrTedros Mentions 4 points from #WHA73 resolution:
1. ensure fair distribution of essential health technologies
2. harness international treaties (incl. TRIPS)
3. classify #covid19 vaccines as global public good

There is not a lot new in the President's latest letter on @WHO handling of the #COVID19 pandemic, sent ahead of second day of #WHA73

But there are few items worth noting, and I will conclude with what I see as major takeaways 1/
Notably, letter doesn't rely on any of the theories about the virus's origins (lab safety accident, bioweapon etc) that Trump administration officials have pushed in recent months

If there was "enormous evidence" you'd expect to see it referenced here 2/…
