We're now moving into the closing plenary of #wpath2018. There will be a closing ceremony this afternoon, but first we're hearing an update on the draft Version 8 WPATH Standards of Care.
We're hearing from Standards of Care committee chair Eli Coleman. "This is a much more robust process than we've ever achieved before".

Process informed by published scientific/research evidence, patient factors/clinical circumstances, and clinical expertise. #wpath2018
Process for writing WPATH SOC 8:
- identify scope
- convene committees for specific topics
- refine questions
- assess evidence
- draft guideline

I'm now participating in a panel on research ethics with trans and gender diverse populations in Atlantico B at #wpath2018
The first talk in our session is by Alexander B Harris from the New York City Department of Health & Mental Hygiene in the United States. Harris is looking in the (non) inclusion of trans people in population studies of public health in the US. #wpath2018
Harris: of 198 population surveys that the US Office of Disease Prevention and Health Promotion combines to measure the Health People 2020 objectives, only 4 measure trans status. In these, modules to collect data on sexual orientation and gender identity are optional. #wpath2018

So many young people struggle with the access to services, and choices for fertility preservation, so this presentation is particularly relevant for the young people and the families we support @Mermaids_Gender #WPATH2018

I'm now in my second parallel session of the morning: "Services in Different Parts of the World".

First talk is by @PenelopeStrauss from Telethon Kids Institute in Perth, Australia, who is talking about the @Trans_Pathways study. #wpath2018
Strauss: Trans Pathways was a national survey of trans and gender diverse young people and parents/guardians. With 859 young people and 194 parents/guardians participating, it was the largest survey of its kind in Australia. #wpath2018
Strauss: Almost half of the young participants in the Australian Trans Pathways survey identified in non-bvinary terms. #wpath2018

Good morning! I'm back at #wpath2018, where 9(!) parallel sessions are now taking place.

I'm at "The Argentinian experience in public transgender health after the implentation of the Gender Identity Law".
First we're hearing from a speaker from the Argentinean Transvestite, Transgender and Transsexual Association (I missed her name, sorry about this). #wpath2018
The organisation was founded 25 years ago by trans women who wanted to fight state persecution, which included being regularly detained by the police. #wpath2018

This evening I'm tweeting from the opening ceremony of the #wpath2018 conference in Buenos Aires. WPATH president Gail Knudson is welcoming us to the organisation's first ever conference in Latin America.
Brief speech of welcome from Argentinian Federal Minister of Health Adolfo Rubinstein. He's highlighting the importance of rights and healthcare access that takes sexual and gender diversity into account. Highlights Argentina's progressive Gender Identity Law. #wpath2018
Something I don't expect we'll hear about today which is nevertheless very important - the first ever Argentinian non-gendered birth certificate was issued yesterday under the Gender Identity Law, opening it up to explicitly recognise non-binary and intersex. #wpath2018
