🧵 Today @ManduReid gave her key note Conference speech to a staggering 110 people.

This must be a record for the smallest conference speech ever.

It is with profound pain that we tweet this.
A speech high in emotion & platitudes, low in content.

Huge claims, included ‘bringing down Borris’s government. Yes really.

Since last conference, full of promise around donut economy, Black maternal deaths & more have amounted to nothing.

No campaigns. Zero.
This conference *should have been a vibrant conference celebrating campaign gains- celebrating how motions on paper are transformed into real change.

It could have been a diverse dynamic hub of women recruited during the campaign process….

🧵#BillyBragg champion of misogyny in heels is at it again. Shockingly he's hit out at a rape survivor's request for female only care during a hospital stay for life saving surgery. Here's a little look back at some of his other tone deaf opinions over the last few years. Image
2 While in Germany in May 2022 he equated trans ppl with Nazi era Jews. Comparing women asking for respect and safe spaces to the mass murder of millions of Jewish ppl was a deeply insensitive and offensive take and in this woman's opinion completely bonkers! Image
3 In July 2022 Woman's Place UK asked him to engage in an open discussion with them about his Nazi tweet and he declined. Maybe he realised how batcrap crazy his tweet was or maybe his sexist ego wouldn't allow it who knows? #wpuk ImageImage

Our statement in relation to the P*nk News report on the donation to #WPUK from #Lush womansplaceuk.org/2020/12/02/wpu…
We will not respond to all the half-baked claims and insinuations masquerading as journalism in the PN piece. Many of the errors in the report could have been avoided by diligent journalistic research which it is not our job to provide. #Lush #WPUK #SexMatters
We are disappointed to see the same old canards about WPUK funding and our campaign regurgitated despite the fact that we have refuted them time and time again. We have recently published this WPUK MythBusters womansplaceuk.org/2020/11/28/wpu…

We have been astonished at the lies and slurs about #WPUK that are being promulgated. Sadly, it is something we have become used to: unsubstantiated accusations passed around without the bother of a fact check. We stand by our record. womansplaceuk.org/about/
We have now published a statement on events at #WPUKLab19 which we urge you to read and to share widely. It sets out the facts of what happened and shares our concerns at behaviour of 'protestors' and of the police womansplaceuk.org/2019/09/26/a-w…
We have also now published the texts of two of the speeches that were made at #WPUKLab19 - Here is Kay Green with a message for @UKLabour and its membership. We think they would do well to read it and reflect. womansplaceuk.org/2019/09/25/dea…

Apparently, some people find our New Year Resolutions alarming. We are not sure why. We are alarmed at the state of women’s rights in 2019. We are alarmed we are having to make these resolutions. Read them and tell us what alarms you. womansplaceuk.org/new-year-resol… #sexmatters
1. Women have a right to self-organisation, to speak and to be heard free from fear of abuse, threat or vilification in public and political discourse and in academia. This should be actively facilitated by those with civic or legal responsibility for promoting equality.
2. The law must work for women
The law must be strengthened to ensure that all women who want or need single sex spaces are able to access them without resorting to extraordinary measures. Service providers should be supported in offering such services...

@brightonargus any ideas on why the people harassing attendees of a Brighton @Womans_Place_UK #WPUK meeting on women’s rights might have been flying the rainbow flag upside-down?
Credit to Clare Dimyon CBE for spotting that!
