Starting now w/ @AiHisano Geoff Jones and Robert Lockhart - ESC event about #writing your #firstbook #bizhis
What steps emerging business historians should take to write their first monograph?
From @AiHisano
1) think about what kind of scholar you want to be,
2) explore broader frameworks for your book than you had in your dissertation
Geoff Jones: "as much as you can, leave some space between your defense and your book, perhaps write one article to focus on your specific contributions, put yourself out there, then write a better-conceptualized book project"

If anything I have ever posted needs to go viral it is this! I found Ryan in his cell in #DCGitmo the first time they beat him almost to death for no reason almost 2 years ago and this cruel torture continues. 2 years! Please listen, share and give. I cry for this man. #helpryan

Finally wrote my 200th blog post. Sure it may seem small but it's been a battle and perseverance has been my only soldier. Here's my blogging story:
In 2016, I took up blogging, back then it was simply a "make money through affiliate marketing" scheme. I struggled to write and wrote anything that came to mind, I was an avid researcher and my niche was wide. I was doing fashion, health, tech, and more.
As time went by I switched a lot, there was a time my sole focus was tech then another on fashion. Eventually, I started to lose steam.

I had written 30 articles and wondered why I wasn't making money. I spent a whole year not writing anything until I got paid.

It was awesome to give a presentation w/ my friends at the reciprocity collective {who do outreach w/ #unhoused folks in #denver} to a students from ⁦@DePaulU⁩ on #policy #advocacy & what it can look like when you center #communitypower #copolitics@ProgressNowCO
There’s a beautiful thing that happens when we build policy with people most impacted, & leaders who understand social determinants of health, & students, & direct service providers. #copolitics #denverliving shout out to Amanda Orta - who runs programming for COVIVO #policy
Chicago has very similar niche #housing issues as #Denver - a group of parents from south side built policy development w/ #workingparents in Denver last yr - we convened it, it’s awesome to see parents & young ppl advocating for complex housing issues. In their communities.

Popular media has begun picking up on both the science and the sentiment

In May, an opinion article was published in Fortune Magazine discussing the controversy surrounding ABA. Written by a lawyer named Ariana Cernius, the article outlines some of the problematic history & legal issues associated with ABA.

This week, an article was published from my home province of Ontario. The reporter, @JessicaRDurling, included multiple perspectives in her story. Durling brought together voices from families, proponents of ABA, as well as Autistic self-activists who speak out about its harms.

(1) A quick (unsolcited) #Thread about a mistake I see some new/unpublished/undiscovered talent make on social media: announcing and hyping projects that never get made. We know how exiciting it can be to find a "killer" idea and how thrilling it is to begin working on it. #write
(2) We writers often get ahead of ourselves, posting pages, paragraphs, story clips, partial artwork, screenshots, praise from family/friends/colleagues - all for unfinished and/or underdeveloped projects that clearly need more time to grow and become a "thing." #writerslife
(3) The scant validation we receive for this unfinished masterpiece spreads like a raging virus and overtakes the time and effort needed to get the project done. We begin to sell the IDEA of the project instead of turning the IDEA into a PRODUCT. I've seen this happen a lot.

*A Creative Writing Thread*
1: It really is true. It takes an entire day of focus to produce a few meaningful and evocative passages of words. The writers who park themselves on remote mountains with their desk set against beautiful landscapes or in coffee shops in the company
of a bitter black cup of coffee aren’t exactly chilling. They are following a time-tested process that works for them. Find yours.
2: Writing requires a deep dive into the well of human emotions. Don’t resurface, forget about breathing, until you have discovered humanity in either its purest or ugliest - most conflicted form. Those are the makings of a story.

I keep being asked what #Dickens would have made of #Brexit. Charles & Catherine Dickens took their family to live in #Genoa, #Italy for a year (in 1844-1845) – something Brits will no longer be able to do after 29 March. #travel
Before moving to #Italy, Charles #Dickens employed Antonio Gallenga, a political #refugee from #Parma who had migrated to #London, to teach him Italian. In #Brexit Britain, Gallenga would no longer be allowed to work legally.
#Dickens wrote a #travelogue about his year in #Italy. ‘Pictures from Italy’ details the family’s travels through #Europe to their new home in #Genoa, & Dickens' #travels around the country. In #Brexit Britain Dickens would no longer have the right to work in another EU country.
