(1/21) The 2017-18 @HouseGOP had plenty of indictments, #GOPCorruption, and ethical breaches (see my 21-tweet-thread: ). Now meet House GOP freshmen being sworn in on 1/3/19. With their baggage, they'll fit right in.

#CultureOfCorruption #GOPComplicit
(2/21) Ross Spano @RossSpano #FL15
In a clear violation of @FEC campaign finance regs, Spano funded his campaign with large, unreported loans from personal friends. Given the amt & his relatively narrow win margin, it's shocking he is even being seated. (tampabay.com/florida-politi…)
(3/21) Anthony Gonzalez @anthonygonzalez #OH16
In another flouting of @FEC regulations, Gonzalez faced scrutiny for apparently (and illegally) colluding with a supportive Super PAC that was funded solely by - wait for it - Gonzalez's father! (washingtonexaminer.com/opinion/christ…)

Why the slight shift? Let me try to explain what we've observed move post-Labor Day. There are basically 3 large buckets of House races we're watching...
1) Vulnerable Rs in upscale, suburban, Clinton-won "Whole Foods" districts like #VA10 Comstock, #KS03 Yoder, #CO06 Coffman, #MN03 Paulsen, #CA45 Walters, #NJ07 Lance, etc. These Rs are mostly trailing & their numbers haven't gotten any better recently.
2) Competitive races in redder, working-class districts that Trump won by double digits in '16, such as #IL12 Bost, #MN08 OPEN, #NY22 Tenney, #WV03 OPEN, etc. Overall, things have slightly improved in "Trump zones" for Rs, w/ notable exceptions in districts like #KS02 & #ME02.

A thread on @WholeFoods and elections: @Redistrict recently wrote that Dems will perform the best in areas that are geographically close to Whole Foods (WF). I decided to map/calculate the # of Whole Foods by congressional district to test his theory on WF and elections (1/9)
So first, the basics. There are 470 WF across the U.S., and 233/435 CD's have at least 1 WF in them. WF districts did tend to prefer Clinton over Trump, as they had an average 2016 pres. margin of +13 Clinton, while non-WF districts preferred Donald Trump by +8 points. (2/9)
@RepTedLieu’s #CA33, has the highest number of WF (dare I say it’s a Whole Foods gerrymander?!), with 10 WF. The Boston metro also has a large number of WF, with #MA05, and #MA07 (@AyannaPressley's new district) each having 7 (3/9)

THREAD - Profiles In Cowardice: Republicans from coast to coast are refusing to debate their Democratic opponents in front of constituents. #DemsWannaDebate

A race-by-race rundown (incl. video/photos) of the most egregious cases of debate-dodging:
/1

The bottom line message here: demand accountability and transparency in representation. And don't settle for anything less.

What follows is a series of quotes from Democrats who aren't having much luck coaxing their opponents into live debates. /2
Liz Watson wants to debate Trey Hollinsworth in #IN09. Where's @RepTrey? cc: @LizForIndiana

Holy crap. The new Sabato Crystal Ball House ratings change is...big.

This is the first time the Crystal Ball has given Democrats better than 50/50 odds of taking the House. And there is a LOT to unpack here.

centerforpolitics.org/crystalball/ar…
Here are Sabato's topline changes.

5 races are no longer Safe R: #IA04, #IN02, #IN09, #PA16, #TX31

3 races shift from Likely R to Lean R: #AR02, #FL16, #NM02

9 more R seats are now Tossups: #IA03, #IL06, #KY06, #MI08, #OH01, #OH12, #TX07, #WV03

And #FL13 is now Safe D.
Here are a few takeaways:

-White nationalist Rep. Steve King has a credible challenge
-IN and WV have competitive House races (and the extra attention from Ds could help their senators here)
-#OH12 special is REALLY close
-Dem women vets (McGrath, Hegar) are kicking ass.

THREAD

Q2 Fundraising is over, and Democrats did a great job!

But I was chatting with @ybbkaren and an interesting question came up:

With SO MANY great candidates, how do we decide who needs donations the most? Many are worthy, but our personal funds are not unlimited.
So I came up with an idea for my own list of Dems who need $$$ based upon the following criteria:

*They have won their primary
*They are trying to flip “swing” GOP-held seats (per @CookPolitical ratings)
*They are behind their GOP opponents in “Cash on Hand” (per @OpenSecretsDC)
That’s not to say that other Democrats in swing districts are not worthy. They are. But the following, from a strategic $$$ perspective, might be the best place to donate *for now*.

This is the list of those House candidates, and their donation links, based on that criteria:
