My name is Dawn Tyree, and I am writing to you because I would like to speak on the record regarding #HB3018 to end #childmarriage in #WestVirginia. I am a survivor of child marriage. I was 13-years-old when I was forced to marry my 32-year-old abuser. He had been sexually abus.
I had no rights over my body. Not one adult talked to me about birth control, and at 14 years old, I was expecting my second child. I was a mother of two at age 15. Pregnant again at 16 years old.
Let's end #childmarriage #wvleg! Do the right thing and protect children in #WestVirginia. Girls belong in classrooms not bedrooms. Pass #HB3018 w/ no amendments.

You can do it!

Income tax repeal is on the agenda in West Virginia, with Gov. Jim Justice and Republicans in both the House and Senate releasing plans for dramatically lowering or eliminating the state’s individual income tax. buff.ly/3fEia9d @JaredWalczak #wvleg
Despite their shared aims, these plans represent vastly different approaches. They are not even aligned on which income should benefit from rate reductions.
House Republicans propose a straightforward reduction in income tax rates, while their Senate counterparts initially exclude investment income, and the governor excludes pass-through business income as well as investment income.

I want to see actual bill text, but the abstract of Gov. Justice's income tax repeal plan in West Virginia has some notable features:

Good: across-the-board rate reductions, unlike the MS approach of phased exemptions; in first stage, rates range from 1.2-2.6%.

The initial PIT reductions only applies to wage, salary, retirement, and unemployment income, not business income, investment income, farm income, etc. If the goal is economic growth, no relief for small businesses or entrepreneurs is surprising (and nonneutral).

In fact, small business owners would face higher taxation, not only still facing current PIT rates, but paying a higher sales tax that now applies to business purchases (legal, accounting, advertising, data processing, other professional services).

A bill was just introduced in the WV legislature prohibiting the teaching of “divisive concepts.” Among other things, they want to prohibit teaching about the existence of structural racism or sexism in the U.S., as well as about racial privilege. #wvleg
