Charlotte #Erxleben lebt ab dem Jahr 1939 in Berlin und erwirbt hier vom mütterlichen Erbe in der Zimmerstraße 62 eine Privatpension mit sechs Zimmern auf zwei Etagen. Sie gibt an, als "Zimmervermieterin" zu arbeiten, wobei sie ihren Wohnraum vor allem als Bordell nutzt.
Das Etablissement, in dem auch sie selbst als Prostituierte arbeitet, zählt in Berlin zu den "gehobenen" Salons. Die Betreiberin hilft über mehrere Jahre hinweg verschiedenen Jüdinnen und Juden, die sie in ihrem Bordell (teils wiederholt) versteckt und mit Lebensmitteln versorgt.
