Director #WangYi's remarks on #UkraineCrisis at #MunichSecurityConference2023:
#China is not a party to the #UkraineCrisis, but we have not sat idly by or added fuel to the fire, and we firmly oppose any move to exploit the crisis.
the framework for a peace deal had been put on the table. But regrettably the peace talk stopped. Some people don't want fighting to stop. They don’t care about the life and death of #Ukrainians or the harm done to Europe, but have larger strategic calculations in mind.
Confrontation between major powers must be avoided. We hope European friends will give sober thought to these questions: what are needed to stop the war? What is needed for peace and stability to endure in Europe? What role does Europe play to realize its strategic autonomy?

Why is #WangYi coming to India? Some thoughts in this thread:
The Chinese have a confirmed propensity for such choreographed diplomatic maneuvers- that is their style and habitual mode of transacting foreign relations. Secondly, they see an opening, a scope for new alignments 1/
that must be explored against the scenario of the Russia-Ukraine war, especially if any new alignments can take away from the sum of coalitions within the Indo-Pacific, led by the United States. India is a key and central power in this calculus-an India that is careful not to
criticize or condemn Russia for its actions, or, pin its colors to a western mast - a country which powers like China (and by extension, Russia) would like to see inching towards their side, although I believe, we remain solidly (and not ‘shakily’ to use a Bidenesque term)

2. At that time it was like a miracle when the final result was announced. Everybody cheered with joy at the central counting centre, with hopes in our eyes to make some changes in the rigged system that had lost its touch with the people completely. Image
3. Four years ago, no one would believe what had happened in #HK, with #policebrutality, arbitrary prosecution, draconian #NationalSecurityLaw, censorship, disqualification, election cancellation and media meltdown, with 9000+ #HKers arrested and 12 youths now detained in #China. 3. Given such a long list of authoritarian vandalism, it is doubtful why #China can still claim itself as the upholder of multilateralism and peace.
