I was in a small crowd of commuters that watched the first twin tower collapse from the ferry landing in Weehawken, NJ with my 3-week-old in my arms. My mom and I were still trying to get to NYC for a pediatrician appointment when the ferry returned & the ferry staffer yelled (1)
"Go home, people! The subways are closed. Why are you trying to go to work? Go home!" Then we watched the tower collapse. It was all so surreal and incomprehensible on that sunny, gorgeous day, the beginning of so much grief and sadness for many months to come. Yet, today (2)
we are seeing the equivalent number of untimely deaths from COVID every 2-3 days in our country, as if the twin towers were collapsing every other day as Trump spends all his time golfing, watching Fox News & having rallies that are superspreader events. Why aren't we all (3)
