We’re just 22 days away from Election Day—in the middle of an ongoing election, when millions of people have already started voting—@SenateGOP are afraid of the truth: that they might not be able to get away with their Supreme Court nominee after the American people have spoken.
Senate Republicans know that the American people don’t want the Affordable Care Act to be overturned. They know that even the majority of Republicans support provisions of the ACA like protecting people with pre-existing conditions.
Senate Republicans know that the majority of Americans don’t want Roe v. Wade to be overturned—that the majority of Americans don’t want to see abortion criminalized. But that’s why we’re here today. Because Senate Republicans know the American people don’t want this.

President Trump explicitly promised that anyone he nominated to the Supreme Court would be a vote to overturn the Affordable Care Act.
Just one week after the election, the Supreme Court will hear a case in which the Trump Administration is trying to strike down this landmark law that has expanded health coverage and given pre-existing condition protections to tens of millions of Americans. #WhatsAtStake
Let me be clear: Seven days after Election Day, the Trump Administration will be telling the Supreme Court to tear down the Affordable Care Act and gut health care protections in the middle of this pandemic.

Today begins Senate confirmation hearings for Amy Coney Barrett, Donald Trump's Supreme Court nominee.

Amy Coney Barrett’s record is filled with hostility to civil rights and red flags that should disqualify her.

And yet, here we are.

#OurCourt #BlockBarrett
As @SenFeinstein notes, President Trump has promised to nominate a Supreme Court Justice who would dismantle the Affordable Care Act and health care rights for millions of people across the country.

This is exactly why he nominated Amy Coney Barrett.

We all remember when insurance companies could discriminate against people with asthma, diabetes or cancer. Now if Trump and Amy Coney Barrett have their way, millions could lose health care over a new pre-existing condition: COVID-19. #WhatsAtStake kff.org/policy-watch/i…
One week after Election Day, the Supreme Court will hear the case that could deal the death blow to the ACA. We could soon be back to the days of pre-existing conditions, annual limits, and lifetime caps. 23 million Americans would lose their health care. vox.com/2020/3/2/21147…
We don’t yet know all of the long-term risks of COVID-19, but we can't ignore the evidence of heart and lung damage, strokes, and other chronic conditions. Without the ACA, COVID is another way that insurance companies could reject people or send their costs through the roof.

The health care of tens of millions of Americans is on the line. This lawsuit to undermine the #ACA is personal to me. #CripTheVote #ProtectOurCare #WhatsAtStake /1
15 years ago I was #paralyzed by a random bullet. I woke up from an induced coma to learn I had lost my #healthcare & I was now bankrupt, my family as shattered as my spine. #CripTheVote #ProtectOurCare #WhatsAtStake /2
Over the next several years, I struggled. It was a constant fight to get the equipment, medicines and therapies I needed to survive. I lived in poverty, often having to decide which was more important: medicine or food. #CripTheVote #ProtectOurCare #WhatsAtStake /3

1/ THREAD: Over the past few months, I've heard from hundreds of people in Connecticut about how the ACA has impacted their lives. They are terrified that the GOP lawsuit to overturn the ACA will succeed. Here are just a few stories of #WhatsAtStake for families in our state.
2/ Becky, from Storrs - “If the Affordable Care Act is struck down, and insurance companies are allowed to kick people with pre-existing conditions off of their parents’ insurance, we'd lose everything. We would have to declare bankruptcy.”
3/ Claudia from Coventry - “I have survived breast cancer (five years in June), and I was diagnosed just as my COBRA coverage was expiring. If I hadn't had coverage through the ACA, my retirement savings would have been wiped out.”

Wanted to share a little about the lawsuit that AG Hawley filed that would eliminate protections for preexisting conditions for millions of Americans, including kids like ours. Feel free to follow along. 1/
Here's the first page of the lawsuit seeking to declare our health care protections unconstitutional. AG Hawley didn't have to join this lawsuit, but he chose to, on behalf of his state. 2/
Here's the part that says the #ACA protects #PreExistingConditions, makes sure people can't be charged more for them, and requires that insurers cover essential health benefits.

That's the part that keeps our kids alive and our families out of bankruptcy. 3/

Since the Senate Judiciary Committee Record is “open” til Monday 9/10 at NOON it would behoove one of the @SenateDems to submit declarations offering proof that he lied along with a referral for a PERJURY investigation. #WhatsAtStake #StopKavanaugh slate.com/news-and-polit…
IF declarations allege that Kavanaigh lied under oath, Senators have an obligation to determine whether he perjured himself before they vote on his confirmation. Would Republicans investigate a Democrat? In a heartbeat! And Democrats would agree.
So @SenateDems should put the charges in the Judiciary Committee Record, even if the result is “voted out of committee with a request for perjury in the minority report” and ask every Senator “did Kavanaugh lie and should you investigate that before voting on confirmation?”

Based on what I heard — and didn't hear — from Judge #Kavanaugh at his hearings, and having reviewed his writings and record as a judge, I believe any reasonable person would have cause to be concerned, even fearful, of his confirmation to the Supreme Court.

I will vote no.
My decision is based on:

1) his judicial track record
2) his equivocation on whether presidents should be investigated while in office, even though he investigated President Bill Clinton for Independent Counsel Ken Starr, and
3) what little we have seen of his White House record
Further, this whole process has been outrageous.

My request to meet with Judge #Kavanaugh before the hearings began was denied by the White House. I joined @JudiciaryDems in requesting a modest postponement so I had adequate time to review his full record – that was also denied.

My abortion (a short thread).

I was 19. I married my boyfriend w/ a black eye. (It seemed like abuse stemmed from possessiveness, so I thought marriage would prove I was committed to him. I was wrong.)

When I told him I was pregnant, he threw me around & choked me 1/
Until I lost consciousness. When I woke up, I fled our small apt.

I knew that if I had that child, we would have been subject 2 a lifetime of abuse--physical & mental.

I wept during the procedure but afterwards, I divorced him, went to college & law school & had 2 children. 2/

Friends, today's developments with regard to our health care made crystal clear #WhatsAtStake, the need to #StopKavanaugh, and the need to be a #HealthCareVoter this November.

Here's a quick explainer thread on what happened, and where we go from here. (1/)
In Texas today, a judge heard arguments on the lawsuit brought by several GOP State AGs and the Trump Administration to declare the #ACA, including #PreExistingConditions protections, unconstitutional. That judge seemed prepared to do just that. (2/)

modernhealthcare.com/article/201809…
If that one judge rules to strike down #PreExistingConditions protections, millions of Americans - including those of us with medically complex kids - would be at risk of losing health care.

Such a decision would be appealed, and could ultimately land at the Supreme Court. (3/)

Men have been accusing us of hysteria for hundreds of years for deigning to speak up for our rights. I have spent much of my adult life arguing against the hysterical label, explaining how sexist it is. At this point fuck it. Damn straight I'm hysterical #StopKanavaugh /1
I'm hysterical because this accusation has always been used to control women. We were burned at the stake for being witches, put in sanatoriums, had forced hysterectomies & oophorectomies, were sterilized, & we're too emotional to decide if we want an abortion #SaveRoe /2
