One of my dear friends was a child in the Trnopolje concentration camp. Another one, lost her child when Serb forces took him never to return. His remains were found years after. 102 children were killed in Prijedor and today they cannot even commemorate their deaths.
#WhiteArmbandDay is not just for us to remember, it's there for us to demand better. Why are politicians not fighting against the Dodik regime and Prijedor police when it comes to the commemorations? Why are they not demanding people be allowed to protest and commemorate today?
What is the use in these supposed "pro-BiH" or "pro-Bosniak" parties when they're staying silent as survivors in the Prijedor region are continually marginalised? It's their tax paying money that affords the salaries of those who are forbidding the commemorations.
31.05. 1992. Radio Prijedor broadcasts the following:
“Citizens of Serb nationality, join your army and police in the pursuit of extermism. Others; Muslims & Croat must place white flags on their homes and put on white armbands. Or you will suffer severe consequences”

Thus started the genocidal campaign of ethnic cleansing in Prijedor. As people were marked to identify themselves as “non-Serb” they were murdered or sent off to concentration camps where they suffered torture, starvation and constant beatings. #WhiteArmBandDay
Today we remember, the innocent civilians of Prijedor. Over 3,000 mainly Bosniak Muslims were murdered.
102 children were murdered.
Women were imprisoned and raped.
Over 50,000 Bosniak Muslims were forcibly displaced from their homes.
