To my native village, there tomorrow morning to embark on a 35 mile walk to Winchester in aid of @DKMS_uk.

If you felt like sponsoring my niece Daisy, who will be accompanying @James1940, I would be inordinately grateful.

The transmitter tower we can see from around the #avebury / #ridgeway area #wiltshire. It's actually located in the ground of what was #RAF Clyffe Pypard, from here are views looking out over the Ridgeway, Hackpen Hill, Cherhill & Furze Knoll
Clyffe Pypard - as well as being an ancient village situated on the White Horse trail between Broad Town & Cherhill (more of which I shall have to post) This here was a former satellite airfield used in between 1941 - 61. It is now farmland but a few things remain...
a subterranean HQ, 4 Mushroom pillarboxes, a machine gun range, a hanger + more, worth a respectful visit - for more info tinyurl.com/yckm87pw, a brief & interesting video - tinyurl.com/2p96ptju

This afternoons stroll starts in the Wiltshire village of Edington #Wiltshire
This is Ralph’s seat. I don’t know who Ralph is / was but it’s a nice spot view a view over Edington Priory @MyFaveBench
On the edge of the village I see a reminder of how many miles we are from London, before heading up Salisbury Hollow. A stretch of tarmac soon gives way to a steep gravel byway leading up to Salisbury Plain.

On 6th May, all 41 Police & Crime Commissioners in 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿 are up for election via Supplementary Vote System.

PCCs have significant influence but election turnout has been low.

In #Wiltshire only 25% voted in 2016, 15% in 2012. Wilts PCC has influence over 7 Parlt constituencies.
PCCs ensure community policing needs are met as effectively as possible and oversee how crime is tackled.

They are elected to hold 👮 force to account for delivering the kind of policing local people want to see.

Their aim is to cut crime and to ensure 👮 force is effective.
PCCs bring a public voice to policing by:

• engaging with the public and victims of crime to help set police and crime plans;

• ensuring the police force budget is spent where it matters most; and

• appointing, and where necessary dismissing, the chief constable.

For many years, Figsbury Ring, depicted here in the Ordnance Survey for 1927 with the Roman road from Old Sarum to Winchester to the south, was thought to be a bivallate Iron Age hillfort...

...but there was something strange about the innermost circuit

Salisbury looking glorious today, seen from the ancient ramparts of Old Sarum. #wiltshire #history Image
The outline of Old Sarum Cathedral, completed in 1092. Its exposed setting at the summit of a Neolithic hill fort and lack of water supply gave it a short lifespan. By the 1200s it was being dismantled and its stone reused in building the present Salisbury Cathedral nearby. Image
Augustus felt these Old Sarum stones made a good statue plinth for him. Image

.@realDonaldTrump, call off your summit with Putin. A British woman is dead of a horrific poisoning, linked to ex-spy #Skripal poisoning just months ago. #Putin is not fine. He's responsible for this and other murders. America doesn't need to make deals with murderers. #Wiltshire
@realDonaldTrump Sturgess murder by chemical weapon is yet another attack against NATO allies by Russia/Russian proxies approved and/or ordered by Putin. And election manipulation for Brexit and Trump. These facts alone warrant calling off Putin Summit. Imagine if a Muslim migrant had killed her.
@realDonaldTrump And this: Putin critic #Glushkov found strangled at his London home the day he was due in court in case against Russia's state-run airline Aeroflot

#Putin is not fine. #Russia under Putin is not fine. A summit now rewards & encourages a murderous regime.
