I have actually taken the time to make a spreadsheet with the proposal for the excise reform proposal. My spreadsheet shows me that an average bottle based on 13.5% would cost the consumer £0.69 per bottle more based on all other costs remaining the same.
If that bottle has just 1% more ABV at 14.5% then the price increase per bottle is £1.03. Again with no other fix costs changing. Moreover the reduction on Fizz has almost no effect on the retail prices. There would be no benefit to the consumer.
So once again in the cold light of day this wonderful proposal from @RishiSunak is based on nothing but hot air. Higher prices for consumers, no gain on tax revenues, but an unworkable regime for the actual importers.

Hey @RishiSunak can you explain to the world how moving from 4 levels (bands) of wine taxation to 26 levels (your proposal) is simplifying the excise system. Would really like to know. Maybe I am missing something because seems more complicated. So don’t be shy guy, let us know.
Hey me again @RishiSunak. Looking like 112,000 people would like you to answer this question or do I have to get @CPJElmore to do it in Parliament. Be a good egg and answer the question.
When is duck not a duck? Below is the proposal from government for #wine excise reform. Read very carefully bullet point 3. Its very cleverly written and designed to confuse.

Image

Treasury Wine Estates $TWE $TWE.AX is a global premium wine producer, owner of Penfolds Grange – a collector’s item. Recently it has been hit hard by Covid-19 and China-Australia trade wars. Earnings are down, but is there an asset play? Let’s take a deep dive. 👇
1. Investment Thesis: I prefer stalwarts, but this looks like a decent one-sided asset bet with significant optionality (takeovers, divestments, new markets, completion of trade wars, or return to earnings). The sum-of-its-parts valuation shows it’s may be heavily undervalued.
2. Macro: The earliest remnants of wine date back to the Neolithic period (c.8500BC) – arguably one of the most disruption-proof industries. People will continue to drink wine I suspect for another 10,000 years toboot.. Image

Can we *please* STOP saying that #ancient #wine was far more alcoholic than modern wine, and that’s why it was watered down 😬

A #thread why... 1/
While variable, most modern dry wines typically have an alcohol concentration of 10-14%.

Ancient wines were made with wild yeast - blowing around the vineyard & found on the skins of grapes. 2/
Many wild yeast strains are unable to continue converting to alcohol above 6%. Other yeasts then kick in.

The most favourable type of yeast to produce reliable & consistently good alcohol/wine is Saccharomyces cerevisiae - what most modern wines are inoculated with. 3/

#BOOK: My #Money Grows on Trees: Sowing into Revelation and #Wealth by Zari Banks, M.Ed (2013)

Ch 1. Revelation: You get revelation when Holy Spirit breathes life into The Word, He speaks directly to your spirit or thru someone w/anointed understanding.

Ch. 2 Submission and Obedience: You can't take the parts of The Bible you want to believe because they're comfortable, and ignore what's uncomfortable. Example, you don't get abundance without giving. You can't operate in Authority w/o submitting first to Jesus' Authority.
Ch. 3 Sowing into Revelation: You open a portal for receiving in your life by honoring Yahweh with various types of seed - money, time, service, study, prayer, love, etc. He multiplies every seed you sow for good or bad; you determine the seed.

If you are wondering what you can do to keep youngsters busy during this extended vacay, how about working with them to learn #Linux, an OpenSource [free] operating system with lots of other awesome free software for kids AND their parents for personal and professional growth. /1
Linux is not a single system, but a host of other "flavors" built upon the original Linux kernel. Two of the most popular for "newbies" has to be @Ubuntu and @Linux_Mint. I use both systems. In fact, today I'm configuring a new generation AMD4 computer w/ a Ryzen processor. /2
If you feel you absolutely must have #Windows, Linux will help you create a dual system. If you only need the software, then #Wine is a free software package that you can use to run Windows software on a Linux platform. /3

I started playing #guitar in college. Some of my friends back home played, so I thought I'd learn. It's been years since I kept up with it. With no job and an empty house, I had time. Plus, I could crank up my amp. Ava would have hated it. All the more reason to do it.
#vss365
Strumming a few chords or playing a riff through a loud amp usually makes me feel better. It's more of a distraction this time. My amp is a little old. Even a #ragpicker might pass on it. "If you're not going to play it, sell it," Ava nagged. Life always got in the way.
#vss365
Or I got in the way. Not even ten years ago I kept getting sick all the time. Painful stomach cramps would radiate weakness throughout my body. I learned how to wash it away like healing #rainwater. That's when I really started to figure out who I was and what I could do.

1/ Some amazing @zoom_us experiences this weekend - constraints give birth to creativity and it's been cool to see what folks are doing in this weird time. It's also been this odd pause where you can reach out to folks you haven't spoken to in YEARS and they are excited to chat.
2/ Friday night, my monthly dinner group got together via Zoom - 13 attendees, 2 new to the group (had never met in person); we managed a conversation for 2+ hours that had everyone share ideas, enjoy jokes and test out both polling and breakout room functions. #wine was involved
3/ A robust side conversation emerged in the chat bar as folks waited to chime into the main conversation - something that rarely happens in work meetings
