Ahead of publication of UK's objectives for its future relationship #negotiations with the EU, & of normal Thurs @HouseofCommons #BusinessQuestions this AM, a quick thread on some aspects of where we are on #Parliament side of things. 1/
1st, remember that, 'cos of way UK does treaties, gov is under no obligation to publish what it's publishing today. UK gov is under no obligation to tell Parl anything about treaties it's negotiating unless & until they need domestic implementing legislation +/or ratification. 2/
So, fact that gov is publishing a paper today, & doing so accompanied by both a written & oral statement to Parl, is good. It continues longstanding practice of UK gov publishing some kind of doc before start of negs with (pre-Brexit, the rest of) the EU. But... 3/

The Daily Mail have systematically hunted Meghan and Harry down like Diana over a number of years. Now they claim H&M to be "traitors" for being hunted and choosing a different path for themselves ... cont'd

@DailyMailUK @MailOnline @AlisonKMurray @carolJhedges @RachelAshleyVox
Cont'd ...

The Mail's treatment of Meghan and Harry is the same behaviours that tabloids apply to Remainers, Judges etc.

They invested 17 pages of hate in their pursuit of H&M today because they chose a different pathway for their exit instead of a tunnel of love ...

#Meghan
Sorry seems to be the hardest word for Mail readers. It seems to me that they live their lives like candles in the wind ...

Meanwhile, #WWIII, #ClimateCrisis, #BrexitShambles get no coverage due to the #gaslighting of our gutter press ...

What do people in N.Ireland need to know about the #WithdrawalAgreementBill?
(for reasons obvs to folk in NI, I wonโ€™t use the acronym ๐Ÿ˜•).

I gave an interview to @BBCgmu this am, & here are the key points...

TL;DR: Hugely important for NI but ltd. scope & time to affect.

1/14
@BBCgmu The Bill puts the #WithdrawalAgmt into domestic law.

๐Ÿ“ฃ**REMEMBER: the difference btn this WA & Mayโ€™s is the Protocol on NI/IRL โ€“ so hugely important for N.Ireland **

This Bill sees amendments to the NI Act (1998) to reflect the Protocol. But no new devolved powers per se.
2/14
@BBCgmu The last time this WA came to Parl it fell on the matter of the timetable for processing the Bill.

MPs then saw the 3 days allowed for scrutinising the detail & tabling amendments as outrageously tight for such an important bill.

It'll be 3 days this time round too. ๐Ÿ—“๏ธ

Programme motion defeated by 308 votes to 322. So Boris Johnson has a Bill that's still "live" but he can't ram it through to his desired timetable. Will he now pull it completely and bow to the inevitability of an extension? Watch this space! #WithdrawalAgreementBill #WAB
Watch for Boris Johnson attempt to call for an election again. Will be interesting to see if he's denied it. Of course, it's all fantastic tabloid headline fodder.
Jeremy Corbyn offers to work with the PM to put together an acceptable timetable. Likely to go down like a bucket of cold sick.

Please note: I'm a vindictive bastard.

Vote for the #BrexitDeal today and I (et al) will spend the rest of your careers reminding people that every bad consequence of it to their lives is because YOU could have given us a democratic way out, but chose Boris Johnson.
#BrexitVote
You'll all be remembered as the people who failed democracy by treating a signed blank cheque as consent.

We signed 4 words in 2016: Leave the European Union.
That cheque was filled in into a 600-page treaty by two Prime Ministers the country never even consented to.
