But the cash never arrives, even as Africa is forced to do as it is told. Leaders smile for the cameras at climate negotiations before going home to countries that cannot develop. This dynamic must change. African countries need to do it their own way. Fast.

Here is a Youtube comment by a viewer after watching my show on #boycottwomanking. They are literally saying that the film doesn’t make it clear that the Dahomey were mass slavers. And also the palm oil alternative to trading slaves was produced by legions of “brutalized” slaves.
What was done by the movie #womanking in omitting KEY facts to paint a picture of Viola Davis character as an emancipator is plainly AWFUL. And it has left millions of Blacks that saw it confused. Imagine how worse it would have been w/o #boycottwomanking?
In #womanking they presented PALM OIL as a tool of emancipation to millions. WHEN PALM OIL PRODUCTION WAS ACTUALLY BRUTAL SLAVERY AT MASS SCALE. Our ancestors were enslaved by the Dahomey making Palm Oil under horrible conditions often leading to disease, sickness, & even death.

As a movie, #TheWomanKing was good, its light on dialogue but has well-choreographed action scenes; both the costumes and general cinematography are stunning (they took some liberties with the fort) and watching it was worth every second
The movie's runtime is mostly spent on the Agojie, but since most reviews were uninterested in that but instead focused on Dahomey's history

The gravity of the atrocities skipped over by #womanking can't be put into words. The #BoycottWomanKing protest should be an awakening for #ados Black Americans as to the GAPS in their own identity. "The African Trade" by History is a good primer. WATCH:
The #WomanKing Dahomey traded about 3 mill of our ancestors but other countries & their progeny have been able to live on a flat blackness that Black Americans have blindly anchored. There still were 9 mill more sold up the African coast for hundreds of years. #BoycottWomanKing
Part of the reason this isn’t resonating as it should is first there is no video. And we now learn visually. And also we don’t grasp the scale. Next time you’re at a packed NFL stadium look around. Imagine all those people enslaved in one place. Multiply that by 200 times.

No $17 - 18 million is not a success. I also believe the people that come opening weekend are all the die hard traffic. There won’t be legs. No other group of people would deal with Hollywood avoiding the content’s ties to slavery and clear disrespect.
