On news of a presidential pardon for Susan B. Anthony on August 18, 2020: Objection! Mr. President, Susan B. Anthony must decline your offer of a pardon today!
Anthony wrote in her diary in 1873 that her trial for voting was ā€œThe greatest outrage History ever witnessed.ā€ She was not allowed to speak as a witness in her own defense, because she was a woman. Judge Hunt dismissed the jury and pronounced her guilty.

Today we celebrate 100 years since the 19th Amendment was ratified. The women who won our suffrage were told over and over again to give up, but they persisted. We have the right to vote today because they didnā€™t listen. #WomensVote100 americanhistory.si.edu/creating-iconsā€¦ Image
But we canā€™t talk about womenā€™s suffrage and ignore the ugly truth: these early efforts excluded Black women and other women of color. And we must recognize that racist laws and practices still keep Black and Brown Americans from participating in our democracy now. #WomensVote100

When we passed the #19thAmendment, there was only one woman in Congressā€”Jeannette Rankin. Today there are 25 women serving in the Senate and over 100 in the House of Representatives. Itā€™s clear weā€™ve come a long wayā€”but we still have more work ahead. #19thAt100
Even today, too many states are putting up barriers through voter suppression efforts that disproportionately hurt communities of color. After all the years women spent fighting for their right to voteā€”itā€™s unacceptable these kinds of efforts would strip that right from anyone.
