😡Putin would LOVE for Trump to declare a Nat. Emergency so we spend $14B on a ridiculous wall so that we don’t have any funds available when the GRU causes more transformer explosions and creates massive fires in drought stricken areas🔥

2007 @EPA tried to add Santa Susanna Field lab to Superfund National Priority list. California refused three times, they wanted complete control via bill SB990, cleanup has been in court since because of “politics” and last week portions of the site burned down #WoolseyFire ☢️
Experts now say nothing toxic was released so it’s one of two things.
A. They are lying
OR
B. 11 years of litigation and demand for more and more tests (by California) were just a way to keep taking money🤷🏼‍♀️

#CampFire thread: Paradise was a disaster waiting to happen

“Years and years ago we knew we had a problem with that community," a Cal Fire chief said. They prepared, but the "fire moved more than twice as fast as was predicted under the worst scenarios"

Interior Secretary Ryan Zinke called the Camp fire, which practically destroyed the town of Paradise, “worse than any war zone I saw in Iraq.”

🚨 Electric Substation at #SSFL Tripped 2 Minutes Before Fire Reported
The tremendously destructive #WoolseyFire has been widely reported as beginning “near” Santa Susana Field Laboratory (SSFL or Rocketdyne), but it appears that the fire began on the #Rocketdyne property itself.
"Cal Fire identifies the fire location as E Street and Alfa Road, a location that is in fact on Santa Susana Field Laboratory." -@PSRLA

I’m at Taft Charter High School for a town hall on the #WoolseyFire. Sen. Henry Stearn, who represents the state’s 27th district, started the town hall with a moment of silence for the victims of the Borderline shooting, local and Northern California fires.
Cal Fire Chief of Strategic Planning Thom Porter said “I am so sorry for all of your losses, so sorry for how this all began with the tragic killing of young people trying to have a good time and the (sergeant).”
Porter said resources are spread between the Camp Fire in Paradise, CA, and the local fires here. But out of state help is on the way, he said, “there are over 200 (engines) in route from as far away as Texas.”

Found out my old softball coach stayed behind to save his house and “got his eyes messed up,” Mark Lukan, his neighbor who also stayed to fight for awhile, said.

“I was looking at the flames shooting up in the air and it looked like a monster taking over,” so he bailed
Many residents here have horses and only had an hour or so to evacuate. The roads were clogged and so they went to the beach for safety. Many animals were still there, tied up and eating their breakfast Saturday morning

If Northern California had received anywhere near the typical amount of autumn precipitation this year (around 4-5 in. of rain near #CampFire point of origin), explosive fire behavior & stunning tragedy in #Paradise would almost certainly not have occurred. (1/n) #CAfire #CAwx
Rainy season has started late this year in California...again. While autumn precipitation isn't usually huge fraction of overall annual average, it's hugely important to ecosystems & in bringing "fire season-ending" moisture. This yr, autumn precip was <20-30% of avg. #CAwx (2/n)
Objective indicators of vegetation dryness and potential fire intensity were at record-high levels for the date this week in vicinity of #CampFire--and would have been very high even for peak summer levels--at a time of year when the rainy season is usually ramping up. (3/n)

I had never heard of a fire tornado until today and I really kind of hope I never see a firenado again in my life. This legitimately feels like biblical levels of destruction. #CaliforniaFires
My family is safe and hopeful this morning. We’re waiting to see what the condition of our house in Calabasas is but we have everything we need with our kids healthy and safe. This is going to be challenging for our community but we will all work through it together. #WoolseyFire
Just got word that as of now our house in Calabasas IS STANDING!!! It hasn’t had any fire damage as of now. We have to stay away for a few days because there’s still a real dangerous threat but for now it feels like a huge relief. #WoolseyFire

So today was truly insane. I’m finally home and can recap the surreal experience I had. I’ve been reporting on fires for the @latimes for four years and I’ve never seen one like this. #WoolseyFire
I thought when I started my day that this huge cloud of smoke was the worst it was going to get. Traffic was super jammed up on the PCH, which meant there was no turning back unless I wanted to be stuck in traffic for 5 hours
Then, I reached Zuma Beach, where I saw a menagerie. There were horses, llamas and even a very unfriendly hog.

We’re still doing okay. Here’s the view from our backyard. The #WoolseyFire is right behind our neighborhood but we haven’t had mandatory evac orders yet. Overall we’re lucky, it’s rough watching our community at large burn and suffer right now. Pray for victims and firefighters!
We see lots of hate + disagreement on Twitter but I want to highlight the love we’ve received since last night. Many offered up houses for us to go to if #WoolseyFire ends up making us leave. Kindness has been across the left + right. We’re all one team during things like this.
If anyone hears news specific to Calabasas Parkway please DM it to me, I’m checking my DM’s because power has gone out a few times so TV is unreliable right now for news. #WoolseyFire

@LAFD Fire 4 making water drops over the #WoolseyFire Image
Even w/ more than 250 regular in service fire companies between @LAFD & @LACOFD, resources are stretched thin, and protecting homes near the coast seems to be priority. These are major, active fires. They will burn many homes. The firefighters and camp crews will save many more.

This fire in Griffith Park, backing down flanks, will likely burn about 50 acres. The smallest of three burning within 25 miles. #griffith #fire. Protecting the LA City zoo is the priority atm. Image
The Woolsey Fire, about 15 miles to the West, has forced the mandatory evacuation of Malibu. 15,000 acres burned. 30,000 people moved from their homes. Thousands more fleeing along the Pacific Coast Highway. “Extreme fire behavior with rapid spread.” Image
Strike teams from @LAFD and @LACOFD are being moved down to the coast to protect homes. Containing the spread of the fire isn’t impossible anymore. The wind is too intense and the fire has spread rapidly. Dozens of homes have already been destroyed.

(20) Not only have wildfires struck CA just 3 months after the last major episode of fires in August 2018, one of the communities at risk, Thousand Oaks in Ventura Co., had the #BorderlineBarShooting only 24 hours ago, where 12 innocents died.

So I'm RTing this thread.
(21) @BDP473 alerted me to it with this tweet: "Update: some geographical perspective and reference of where the #WoolseyFire and #HillFire are burning in Ventura County. Wouldn’t doubt this gets made into a complex soon."
(23) POTUS spoke about this in detail in August, as did several federal agency heads and GOP Congressmen, esp. those in the very smart @WesternCaucus. It's time for the nonsense to stop. #FixIt
