The site of Sanchi comprises a group of Buddhist monuments dating back to the 2nd and 1st centuries B.C. It is the oldest Buddhist sanctuary in existence and was a major Buddhist centre in India until the 12th century A.D. ImageImageImageImage
The reign of Mauryan emperor Aśoka in 3rd century BCE is considered instrumental in spread of Buddhism in Indian subcontinent. With the establishment of monolithic Aśoka Stambha (pillar) bearing a highly elaborate capital, Aśoka distinguished Sanchi as a site of great importance. ImageImageImageImage
Since Aśokan times, subsequent powerful empires reigned over this region – such as the Sunga, Kushana, Kshatrapa & finally Gupta dynasties – continued to contribute to expansion of Sanchi with the construction of hypostyle, apsidal, temples, shrines, smaller stupas & viharas. ImageImageImageImage

How do we steward #forests & #borderlands in a time of human upheaval & migration? Not by building border walls. Our letter @ScienceMagazine about how Poland’s planned wall would threaten transboundary #Białowieża Forest @MZmihorski @UNESCO @BonnConvention science.org/doi/10.1126/sc…
Transboundary frontiers are an emerging conservation priority as they often overlap #biodiversity hotspots & are threatened by construction of border infrastructure. Neighboring countries must co-steward wildlife that cross manmade lines @EcologyJiajia sciencedirect.com/science/articl…
We know from research on the US-Mexico border that walls do not deter people but do impede wildlife, including low-flying birds like pygmy owls. Barriers are an increasing global trend that fragment #connectivity of habitats & populations @ljevanso academic.oup.com/bioscience/art…

When our kids are all grown up, we hope one day they will tell their own children about the beautiful woodland in their neighbourhood and how the community came together to save it #WestbrookWoodland #villagegreen @WeLoveBath @MoreTreesBANES @waspschool @WestonLitter THREAD Image
The woods are a magical place, with a brook running through it. The dappled sunlight shines through the trees and glints off the clear water @Uhperry #WestbrookWoodland #Bath Image
Kids would paddle in the brook and some would use rope-swings to bravely cross it. Some kids were so daring they would jump straight across, taking a deep breath before they leapt from one bank to the other. @BathPlayProject #WestbrookWoodland Image

Built in 1936 by owner Phiroz Karai and positioned at the Oval directly opposite the majestic Victorian Gothic Bombay High Court, Russi Court was aptly renamed ‘Court View’. Consulting ‘shadow architect’ G B Mhatre created Bombay’s most striking frozen fountain. ImageImageImageImage
Writing in the 1937 Journal of the Indian Institute of Architects, he expressed his unhappiness at the assignment stating “the head room for the staircase is very little this being due to the mistake in the original layout of the plan. This gave me a lot of trouble in designing
as the owner approached me when the piles were actually driven-in and the super-structure commenced.” Such was the brilliance of His design that he went on to create an interior view of the fountain designed to bring natural light to Mumbai’s richest and stunning Deco stairwell.
