1/ With the recent depeg of @Platypusdefi's $USP and FUD around $BUSD, I dived deep into @y2kfinance, a DeFi protocol on @arbitrum. A thread on the protocol mechanism and the $Y2K token 🧵
2/ One of the roles of financial markets is to transfer risk and allocate it efficiently. But there's a gap in the DeFi world when it comes to hedging against stablecoin de-pegging risks.
3/ Y2K Finance is a protocol on #Arbitrum providing avenue for hedging and speculating on pegged asset risks. Users can manage potential deviation of stablecoins, liquid staking derivatives (#LSD), or other wrapped assets from their expected value.

How to do that?
When you visit y2k.finance you have an MINT option in top left corner.
It takes you to a screen and you have 2 options.
RISK OR HEDGE
RISK means you open a position on a chosen asset to not depeg. If it doesnt depeg in certain time you win.

Before I dive in, a quick mention to @BanklessHQ since I wouldn't have found @y2kfinance and written this thread without them.

Here's what I'll cover:

2022 saw a significant rise in stablecoin hodlers

When the total crypto market cap dropped, the stablecoin market cap is bound to drop. But stablecoin dominance paints a different story: Image

I think we need to open up a discussion of Lambton Harbour Management & waterfront. This story dates back to 2000 in the very early days of battle to stop the WCC ruining Wellington's Waterfront, a battle that predates that by decades. scoop.co.nz/stories/HL0001…
On 20 January 2000 Scoop was not yet 6 months old. It was launched on June 10th the previous year, Putin had just become the Prime Minister of Russia and George Bush the President of the US. #Y2K had come and gone without incident.

🌟: Let me introduce you to Y2K Finance, the next great Arbitrum project.

What is @y2kfinance ? How does it work? And how it could have saved you from the #LUNA collapse?

1-What is Y2K Finance?

@y2kfinance is a suite of structured products designed for exotic peg derivatives. It will allow market participants:

📌To Hedge
📌To Speculate

On the risk of a particular pegged asset
2-Why is Y2K concerned with pegged assets?

#Y2K believes there is a fundamental mispricing in the risk associated with pegged assets.

Recent de-peg events like $UST or $stETH and fear-based runs on $USDT have shown the risk is much higher. UST de-pegstETH de-peg

To all my "OG" readers:

Let's take a step back in time to 1996.

I sit across from Rob T. Lee on the 609th Information Warfare Squadron operations floor. He's my crew commander; I'm his crew chief.

Lee knows I run "the Computer Virus Myths home page," which has grown so...
...popular that it's eating up all my free time. In December of that year the Ziff-Davis publishing empire will crown CVMhp "the world's #1 most useful website."

Trivia: Lee corrected a web page I wrote where I talked about Start Trek spaceship orbits!
Fact: Lee's career path toward AFOSI began when I formulated a plan to "lateral move" him off the ops floor. Trivia: I *almost* finagled DoD to attend the FOR508 class he authored with him on podium!

What I'm saying is, Lee & I have a career-long history:

This paragraph implies the global cybersecurity community sometimes *fails* to galvanize the IT community to stamp out a vuln that can kill hospital patients in an operating room.

But there IS a precedent. I will don the oldest hat in cybersecurity #criticism to reveal it...
#thegrugq, who has 121K followers including the CISA Director herself, posted a video on "cyber warfare" the other day confirming cybersecurity's failure to save hospital patients' lives. Cyber MURDERS occur because IT & gov't don't yet care to stop it:
#thegrugq was forced in his video to shrug off the murderous "cases of people at hospitals who have died due to cyber incidents," recognizing that "there's not really a response that can be made to it." He went on to say "until it's a huge big deal, it's sort of ignored."

I will now fully defend @jonathanreiber's assertion.

Notice his key phrase: "a measurable economic impact on the American population."

This measurement derives from the fact #ColonialPipeline itself chose to shut down its operations "out of an abundance of caution"...

...so we can rightly say "computer security #hysteria led to a measurable economic impact on the American population."

But ... have there been UN-measured impacts?

Certainly!

I can cite my hilarious audio column from exactly 20 years ago today:

I consider it a first -- a true first! -- that we can measure a real economic impact from computer security #hysteria.

Now we have a cyber attack on the world's largest meat supplier. And it won't surprise me if @JBSCareers shuts down all operations "as a precaution."

For those who care about autism research, it’s important to note that the @AutismINSAR Board continues to include only ONE person of color and ONE autistic person.

That’s unacceptable. Period.
💯

Nominations for the INSAR President have been announced.

autism-insar.org/page/PresElect…
Whomever is elected, it is imperative that they and the @AutismINSAR Board take additional steps to center autistic people and POC in its leadership, press their member institutions to do the same, and take more steps to make INSAR equitable for autistic/POC researchers.
It is also time for @AutismINSAR to begin evaluating the leadership composition of board nominees who represent institutes with all-white leadership (many) or who fail to include #ActuallyAutistic people in their leadership (almost all).

What joyous work that would be!
