1. Amid the chaos & repression in #Zimbabwe, there are few islands of reason & professionalism. One of them is the Zimbabwe Human Rights Commission, with a constitutional mandate to protect & enforce human rights. Its remarkable report is essential reading…
2. The ZHRC pulls no punches. This authoritative report is one for the record books. It says “systematic torture” is being used by the military and the police, targeting the opposition and civil society #ZimbabweAtrocities

I’m reliably advised regime has arrested MDC MP, Rusty Markham and Japhet Ncube, the ZCTU Secretary General. The crackdown continues #ZimabweShutDown #ZimbabweAtrocities
I have now been advised that MP Rusty Markham has been released. He had an unassailable alibi. But that’s our system - arrest first, investigate later! Thoughts with all those still detained.
Just to correct: the ZCTU SG is Japhet Moyo (not Ncube) - apologies for the error.

1. We continue to raise hue and cry over the plight of all political detainees in Zimbabwe. For every well-known detainee like @PastorEvanLive & MDC Organising Secretary, Amos Chibaya there are hundreds more whose names might never be known or remembered #ZimbabweAtrocities
2. Many people continue to suffer at the hands of the State. Their homes which are supposed to be safe havens have become traps. People are living in fear and many men have gone into hiding. But the system targets families, persecuting them as ransom to flush out their targets.
What is happening has the hallmarks of an undeclared but de facto state of emergency where civil & political rights have been suspended. At least with a de jure State of Emergency you know where you stand. This situation is far worse because it creates a legal sham; a facade.
