"We are deeply troubled that you have decided to pull out of event honoring the life & legacy of former Israeli PM Rabin, a Nobel Peace Prize laureate who paid the ultimate price for his commitment to peace & justice"
@aoc @repaoc There is so much about you that inspires, activates, & empowers so many AmericanJews, who overwhelmingly hold same commitment to social, racial, economic, gender & environmental justice that you do. Your leadership means so much to young women, esp women of color...
Your success as legislator/leader/activist for truth&justice depends on your ability to see&treat every American as a human being. Many Jews have reached out to try to express our cmtmt to Zionism as inalienable human right, but you seem unwilling to hear/appreciate our humanity

Zioness on bigoted attacks vs @ADL (share w #ZionessSpeaksForMe) Today is 3yr anniversary of UnitetheRight Rally: neo-Nazis w tiki torches stormed the streets of Charlottesville,VA chanting violent anti-Jewish & anti-Black slogans, & murdered innocent woman,Heather Heyer.
It’s also 3yr anniversary of the launch of Zioness at Chicago SlutWalk, where we encountered vile bigotry as Jews&Zionists who refused to cede our right to participate in a movement to fight patriarchy, misogyny, victim-blaming and slut-shaming.
In both Charlottesville & Chicago, Jews faced horror and violence for the sin of existing. It was terrifying then, and remains so now, that the dehumanizing, bigoted, racist language that Jews encountered in both spaces, from the far left and the far right, was nearly identical.

Last week, Senator Bernie Sanders released a video proclaiming his pride in being Jewish. Indeed, it is an extraordinary moment to see so many Jews in civic, social, and political leadership in this country. 1/
Zioness is proud to see a Jewish candidate advance so far in the race for the White House.
But his Jewishness doesn't erase our deep concern that Senator Sanders' statements, surrogates, staff, & supporters have demonized and marginalized large swaths of the Jewish community...2/
...including the many progressive Jews who are members of, or ideologically represented by, Zioness. 3/

Zioness Statement on Women's March, Inc.'s Removal of Zahra Billoo from its Leadership Committee

Zioness is fighting for an American feminist movement and a broader progressive movement that is inclusive of American Jews. Today is a victory in that fight.
After years of pain, anger, dialogue & action from American Jewish women and our allies, expressing our grief over Women’s March, Inc’s apparent, deeply engrained institutional antisemitism, we were disheartened and outraged to see Zahra Billoo appointed to or'gs Leadership Cmte.
Billoo has repeatedly & viscerally attacked American Jews as Zionists, &––most importantly for those who care about the integrity of feminist movement––she refuses dialogue & interfaith work with Jewish community and has even attacked Muslim Americans who participate in it.

We don't have loyalty oaths in democracies.

People who "love the Jews" don't accuse us of dual loyalty. People who "love the Jews" don't categorize us as "good Jews" or "bad Jews". People who "love the Jews" don't call us stupid. Antisemites do these things.
Remember this as the day that the President of the United States casually employed several of the most explicitly antisemitic conspiracy theories in the same breath. This is the kind of bigotry that has sparked humanity’s worst impulses and greatest catastrophes.
Once again, Donald Trump wantonly attempts to weaponize our identities—American, progressive, Jewish and Zionist.

America was founded on ideals of freedom, not loyalty. Americans vote based on values, not fealty.

Thread on Congresswoman Omar and the Congressional resolution on bigotry (Please share with hashtag #ZionessSpeaksForMe):
Zioness has been viscerally appalled by the language from Congresswoman Omar, and the response from those in our progressive political spaces who have been so quick to denounce our attempts to communicate our pain, or deflect the conversation with gaslighting and what-aboutism.
Tropes of dual loyalty, foreign allegiance and Jewish influence are not new or unique; they cannot be declared in a vacuum divorced from their historical context and consequences; and they cannot be explained away as “criticism of Israeli policy.”

THREAD

What an extraordinary week it’s been. The Zioness community showed up across the country to stand proudly and unequivocally to advance social justice as progressives, Jews and Zionists.
From Seattle to San Jose, from Minneapolis to Boston, from New York to Austin, our Zioness communities stood together and marched together in allyship with marginalized communities.
Our teach-ins in LA, DC + NYC gathered committed, diverse progressive activists for long overdue conversations about what real solidarity/allyship looks like in social justice spaces. They started powerful, long-term conversations + Zioness couldn't be more proud to lead the way.
