So, today was the first day that @AAJA's website crashed in 9 years (when we issued media guidance on the ESPN/Jeremy Lin headline). Really grateful for the journalists determined to get news coverage right, and for those who turned to AAJA for our expertise.
Thank you to everyone who joined/rejoined @AAJA today, donated, signed up as an ally member, and amplified. A huge thank you to @NABJ @NAHJ @RTDNA @CPJ @pressfreedom @JamesFoleyFund and so many other journalism orgs for your support and amplification today. Truly grateful.
And yes - we do have ally memberships. You don't have to be AAPI or a journalist to join @AAJA. Thank you for your support and welcome to #AAJAfamily. aaja.org/become-a-membe…

To all the Asian American and Pacific Islander journalists logging on/showing up to work this morning, feeling shook, horrified, exhausted and invisible, I see you and you’re not alone. 1/
You’re processing the news while putting on your game face to do your job.

Maybe none of your managers or colleagues are checking in on you today.

Or maybe they ARE checking in and you worry about seeming weak or biased.
Maybe you're the only AAPI in your newsroom, or maybe there are no AAPI managers there.

You may be the only one pitching the shooting story today, even if it's not your beat.

There are hundreds of AAPI journalists across the country feeling the way you do today.

I believe @jinkding is highly qualified for AAJA VP of Finance – not just as someone who manages grant money as a full-time job, but also as a global connector – and I’ll tell you why in this thread: #JinfortheWin
I’ve been working in the field since the beginning of this pandemic. As journalists, we have to be extremely vigilant – we cannot spread this virus throughout our communities. We’ve been maintaining distance with boom poles, thoroughly disinfecting all of our gear and more.
But if you recall, back in March, the CDC and U.S. government officials were telling us not to wear masks. “They are NOT effective in preventing general public from catching #Coronavirus,” the Surgeon General tweeted.

AAJA has contested elections this year! As a former AAJA Nat’l Prez, I know how much time, energy & experience is required to lead a beloved nonprofit, which is why I’m excited to endorse @juliachanb for VP of Civic Engagement! #aaja20 #aajafamily #aaja 1/6 Image
Julia served on the natl board, and I saw how she handled debates firsthand. She openly listened to other POV’s, but was never afraid to speak her mind. She wasn’t biased towards one group or another; she cared about AAJA as a whole. #aaja20 #aajafamily #aaja 2/6 Image
In fact, she was one of the few national board members to fly to HK and attend @AAJAAsia chapter’s @n3conference. We are all volunteers at the end of the day, but Julia continually proves that she invests the time and $$ to follow through. #aaja20 #aajafamily #aaja 3/6
