Breaking news - #AB32 Decision is out with Judge upholding constitutionality of AB 32 as it applies to private ICE Detention facilities!
In light of the foregoing, the Court GRANTS IN PART AND DENIES IN PART Defendants’ Motions to Dismiss and for Judgment on the Pleadings.
Specifically, regarding the Motion to Dismiss, the Court DISMISSES GEO’s first and second causes of action for intergovernmental immunity and GEO’s third cause of action for obstacle preemption as to GEO’s contracts with ICE.

GEO doesn't have insurance for "claims related 2 employment matters," which likely applies 2 claims in all 3 class-action suits. In a '19 SEC filing, GEO identifies "an⬆️in unreimbursed labor rates" & their “exposure to⬆️employee & inmate med costs” as threats 2 their bottom line

Leaving #sustainablefinance standard setting to the EU alone (while the best we can do in light of Trump) is a suboptimal solution to a real challenge for the global capital markets' transition to net zero.

Case in point 👇
2/ The @EU_Commission under the leadership of @vonderleyen @TimmermansEU @VDombrovskis, plus @ESMAComms @eiopa_europa_eu & other regulators, have done an admirable job moving the #SustainableFinance agenda forward under difficult circumstances. See: ec.europa.eu/info/business-…
3/ Yet without US capital markets regulators like SEC/CFTC/Treasury/Fed in the game, we're stuck with a very European, prescriptive approach to #SustainableFinance regulation... e.g. treating "solid" fossil fuels like coal differently than oil & gas. ft.com/content/07083d…

Yesterday, the California legislature passed #AB32, banning (in the near future) the operation of for-profit prisons, jails, & detention centers in the state and of sending state prisoners out of state to for-profit prisons. 1/

There's a not too modest loophole that allows the state to "renew or extend a contract with a private, for-profit prison facility" ... "in order to comply with the requirements of any court-ordered population cap." 3/
