"What were you wearing when you were sexually assaulted, and can you send us a picture of it?
This is the question @CalgaryPolice have just asked a woman more than 2 months after she reported this assault. It gets worse. Follow this thread. 1/7

2/7 When first reported to @CalgaryPolice more than 2 months ago, the police didn't even ask for or try to acquire evidence or document the bite marks & bruising. Fill out a report online they said & we will get back to you. They did...a couple weeks later #yyc #calgary #abpoli
3/7 @CalgaryPolice took so long to follow up with the bar on video evidence that the bar had long since deleted the footage. Despite being told that the sexual assaulter had been told that the assault had been reported to police they took more than 2 months to talk to him.

The Pension War Room™️ is piqued at the proposed investment strategy review of AIMCO! This is the real "no shit" moment for Travis.

cbc.ca/news/canada/ed…
@SPhillipsAB has quote of the day with:

"Phillips said Albertans deserve clear communication from the finance minister and open consultation on any potential changes to the investment fund."

Yup. And, we also deserve to know what Kevin has been lobbying Travis on. #ABLeg
And, piling on....
"She said the reported losses revealed weaknesses in the governance and oversight of AIMCo, issues which will not be resolved without improved transparency from the province."

Transparency, governance and oversight at AIMCO are teachers' number primary concern

This is the #DemPartyPlatform for 2020. This part is called: Protecting Disability Rights
Only one party has a specific plan to secure the rights of Americans with Disabilities and will fight to enact all appropriate legislation that addresses these rights. 1/9 #NoBarriers

Year 2 of my #PhD when I was atvthe peak of my #PhysicalActivity and #fitness! This was the time when anything felt acheivable 😀
Loved my #hair that I had grown since the start of my PhD! This was #onceinalifetime thing for me to do! I donated 12’ to @locksoflove #cancersurvivor
Then the #science #reality and #depression hit me! It was the most unimaginable experience! It’s easy to brush off when other people say what depression entails, but the #experience was very profound and physically devastating! I noticed the smallest things around me differently!
At the end of year 5, with the help of many #people I beat the #depression! Ofcourse I had occasional flairs from that #experience. But the #rockbottom was something else! In a way I’m #glad I experienced it ad I truly cared about my PhD #research. @OpenAcademics @AcademicChatter

Think of the students... the mental and emotional impact (in no particular order) of:

• someone in their school dying... their class. A friend.
• a teacher dying
• having to self isolate anytime someone in their cohort is symptomatic.
The impact of...

• having to be continually reminded to put their mask on
• the breakdown of student-teacher relationships with teachers continually nagging students
• an unexpected school shut down for deep cleaning
• feelings of guilt if you transmit CoVid to someone
The impact of...

• wondering why your friends are coming to school
• sit down, shut up, and do you work for all classes
• no, you can't go take a moment to collect yourself in the hallway
• no toys
• no sharing
• no socializing
• no fun

Since being signed into law, the bipartisan #ABLEAct has been life-changing to people with disabilities. Please to see the PA ABLE Savings Program has surpassed $30 million in assets as the largest program in the National ABLE Alliance! @PATreasury mychesco.com/a/news/governm…
The continued growth of PA ABLE shows what happens when we advocate for the needs & rights of the disability community. Next up: expanding #ABLE by making the accounts available to another six million people, including one million Veterans, by passing the ABLE Age Adjustment Act.
During this time, the Pennsylvania ABLE Savings Program will continue to be available to all account holders. To learn more or sign up, visit paable.gov

This is your daily pension announcement: The Pension War Room™️ is into labour economics!
The three amigos (@jackmintz and those two other guys) have been publishing op-eds galore in @postmedianet papers. You might want to read this too: #ABLeg

competeprosper.ca/blog/public_se…
The three amigos repeat each other's talking points and (what I think) is a 2013 Fraser Institute report. They make conclusions that are not reasonable, to wit, public sector workers make more than private sector workers. #ABLeg #handsoffmypension
After this came out even the Fraser Institute admitted that using the Labour Force Data instead of the census data was a serious error. (the admission is still on the FI website) Read this too:

***On the conditions of authority in academic publics***

This thread 👇🏼 summarizes recent article by Ingrid Piller in Journal of #Sociolinguistics for the busy reader

#research #AcademicTwitter Image
Q: What makes a #text credible, trustworthy and authoritative?

Many people think it's the quality of #discourse: that some ways of using #language make text more believable

Certainly true BUT: world leaders may talk complete nonsense and still command authority and get elected ImageImage
That is because "#authority comes to #language from outside” (Bourdieu, 1991, p. 109) Image

Today for Father's Day, I'd like to pay tribute to my father, Ruthven Shepherd, who passed away Thursday morning w/ all of us at his side: trinityfuneralhome.ca/ruthven-rulon-… #ableg
Dad grew up in Trinidad, 4th of 10. He loved electronics & working w/ his hands. He learned to build bread boxes out of coconut oil tins & sold them to get $2.50 to buy a do-it-yourself crystal radio kit. He stole a telephone handset to craft a speaker. #ableg
He went on to vocational school and took pleasure in learning various trades (woodworking, metalworking, electrical) alongside regular classes. He was in the top 10 students in every subject. Top student in some. #ableg
